Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

The Wikipedia training project in Daura, Katsina State aims to educate participants on how to contribute effectively to Wikipedia. The training session will cover various aspects, including account creation, editing articles, adding references, and following community guidelines. The project seeks to increase awareness about Wikipedia, promote local content creation, and improve the quality of existing articles. The curriculum will include practical exercises to provide hands-on experience, focusing on local topics of interest. By fostering collaboration and community engagement, the project aims to create a supportive network for participants and encourage their long-term commitment to Wikipedia editing.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

I will let my community knows about the proposal via our social media handles and Hausa Wikipedia and Hausa Wikimedians User Group Discussion pages.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

I will let the target participants and communicate with them via our previous event WhatsApp group and phone calls.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:Kaizenify

I Yusuf Sa'adu I will lead the event and personally provide training to the participants on all aspects of Wikipedia. Following that, Gwanki will take charge and conduct the training sessions on Wikimedia Commons.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

The participants are equipped with both phones and laptops, ensuring that all of them have the necessary equipment for the training. Furthermore, it is worth noting that these participants have previously attended our two-day Wikipedia training in Daura. As a result, they possess foundational skills and knowledge about Wikipedia.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

I will primarily engage the participants through a dedicated WhatsApp group. This platform will serve as a central communication channel, allowing for easy information sharing, updates, and ongoing support throughout the training and beyond.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

Gwanki and I have received numerous messages from the targeted participants expressing their interest in receiving further training in their area. The participants have specifically requested training on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, which is why we have chosen to organize a dedicated training program focusing on these platforms.
