France

[edit]
The French seem ripe for this. I think this article is relevant:

[1] They realize that the way culture is made and transferred is changing, and that they are not part of it. I don't see any objection to having the French Ministry of Culture pay for meetings of French Wikipedia members. 67.161.52.15 14:14, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

International organisations

[edit]
I strongly suggest to explore the European Union possibilities. I would think they will be sympathetic to Wikimedia.

Other Charities and Foundations

[edit]
  • National Geographic Foundation - Venture Funds : I have intended to ask for a grant from the NGF for now more than a year. I think I already wrote them 3 mails - that I never send :-) The goal of my proposal is to produce WikiReaders to give for free to schools and public libraries. Each WikiReader will be a set of information around an en:ecoregion. NGF is oriented toward three goals : 1) bringing more awareness to geography, 2) teaching children and 3) stewardship of our mother Earth. I guess that WR on ecoregions fits potentially the three goals. The print content might be for teenagers, and might have to be simplified a bit, to avoid jargon. We might add many nice pictures from animals (such as birds) and quizz for the kids at the end of it. Anyway, I already wrote this proposal 1000 times in my head and a couple of times with ink. Just sharing a dream I nearly came to Wikipedia with, and have been distracted along the way far too often :-) Anthere
