Grants talk:IEG/Medicine Translation Project Community Organizing/Renewal/Midpoint

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Dear CFCF,

Thank you for submitting this midpoint report. I'm accepting this report with the following comments:

  • Congratulations on accomplishing so much in the first half of the project, including exceeding your goal for getting new translations live, decreasing integration time (and thereby boosting volunteer engagement) and extending the reach of your project's impact by distributing articles to more diverse, underserved languages.
  • You mention the difficulty of translating initial enthusiasm into long-term action and note that a major issue of the project has been preventing editors from feeling that their work is unacknowledged or unseen. Beyond decreasing integration times, I'm curious what else you've observed about maintaining volunteer motivation? What works? What is counterproductive? As you plan for project sustainability, recording best (and worst) practices for keeping volunteers involved over time seems really useful.
  • On that note, as already conveyed in our call today, kudos for setting up your volunteer workflows so seamlessly that the project has been able to continue to be productive during the recent period when you've been less active. As anyone who has managed volunteers will testify, this is a significant accomplishment worth celebrating.
  • Mentioning again here to please go ahead and update your timeline page, with any adjustments to your milestones as needed for the second half of your project (in the wake of the extension approved today), as well as posting any new information to your monthly updates.

User:Jtud_(WMF) will reach out to you soon to process your second disbursement of funds. In regard to the $1,000 previously designated for Programming, please make a note here on this talk page about your current plan for those funds so she knows how much to disburse this round.

Again, congratulations on your progress to date. We're looking forward to the next few months.

Warm regards, --Marti (WMF) (talk) 02:05, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
