Report accepted[edit]

Dear Chippyy, Abbe98, Artturimatias, and Susannaanas,

Thank you for submitting this midpoint report. I'm approving it now.

It's very useful that you've provided so much documentation of what you've created so far. The links to mock-ups, GitHub repositories, dev logs on Commons templates, blog posts, etc. enrich this report with a more nuanced picture of your work to date. In your Final Report, I'd like to ask that you provide more narrative to support to these links and to your bullet summaries, offering more interpretation accessible to an uninitiated reader. For example, it would be useful to hear more about what you learned from your survey (who participated? what were you asking them? what did you uncover about most urgent issues?), or to hear a description of the outcomes from testing with pilot content. The more shorthand approach you've taken here is sufficient for your midpoint, but more analysis and interpretation of your work is important in the Final.

I'm really looking forward to hearing your presentation at Wikimania. If it would be useful to you to have someone review your presentation beforehand, I'd be happy to do so.

I'm pinging Yurik to make sure he is aware you've completed this report. Yurik, any feedback on the technical aspects of this project would be much appreciated. This is a good time to offer any input that might help the team finish up well as they head into the latter half of their project.

Our grants administrator will be in touch shortly to queue up your disbursement.

Best regards,

Mjohnson (WMF), Chippyy, Abbe98, Artturimatias, and Susannaanas, the report and the list of implemented tasks looks very impressive, and judging by Github graph, there has been a significant amount of code changes. It would be great if sometime next week we could schedule a hangout to go over some of the highlights, possibly with a demo of the new functionality. Thanks! --Yurik (talk) 10:06, 1 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for the kind words! I have made a slightly more readable log of some of these commits and other actions here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikimaps/IEG#Dev_Log . I also aim to have the demo of the new API up at wikimaps.mapwarper.net with a proof of concept 3rd party JS app interacting with it this week. We have a hangout planned with Marti next Monday also. Cheers! --Chippyy (talk) 17:27, 7 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
