Grants talk:IdeaLab/مسابقة نشر المعرفة

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

Hi Ovva olfa, thanks for your idea for this knowledge contest and efforts to use social media to bring attention to these articles. Here are some questions and comments I have:

  • The idea to bring in new readers through a contest is an interesting idea. What sort of topics will you encourage editors to write about in order to attract new readers to Arabic Wikipedia? One thing to consider in terms of what topics to write about is to look at what people are searching for in your country. Google Trends offers some information about search topics that are popular in several countries.
  • You've noted that you need three volunteers and some funding for this project. Can you provide some more information about what the funding will be used for? This will be useful if you apply for a Rapid Grant later on.
  • The goal of this campaign is to bring in new readers to Wikipedia, specifically people who are unfamiliar with Wikipedia or do not generally use it. How will this project reach those individuals through social media? For instance, if you're using Facebook to distribute articles written through the contest, and the followers on Facebook are already aware of Wikipedia and know how to use it, then the project is not really reaching new readers.

Let me know if you have any questions. You can respond here on the talk page or reach out to me at cschilling@wikimedia.org if you would prefer. I'm looking forward to helping you develop this idea. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:54, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Next steps to develop your idea[edit]

Thanks for submitting your idea, مسابقة نشر المعرفة, for the New Readers Inspire Campaign. In order to help develop your idea further, we want to ask you to respond to the following questions here on the discussion page. Please refer to this document, which contains examples and resources to help you answer these questions:

1. Describe one or two versions of this idea that are smaller than your initial one.
2. List three assumptions about your project and why you think those assumptions are true (see the document for some examples).
3. List three skills or resources you don’t have, that you need for this project to succeed.
4. How can you determine if your project is successful?

Please contact me on my talk page if you have any questions. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 04:37, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
