Grants talk:IdeaLab/Countering systemic bias through Wikidata authority control

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

A reverse exercise may be helpful, too: check the share of VIAF-indexed persons that either fail wikipedia notability guideliness from the start, or are in the gray area between "surely notable" and "surely non-notable". Take a random sample of 1,000 people and screen them manually against notability guidelines in 10 largest wikipedias. Retired electrician (talk) 11:53, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is an interesting idea! I'm concerned, though, that VIAF or other authorities may be subject to similar kinds of systemic bias (i.e. under-representation of women who aren't considered as important as men in the broader culture). How can we make sure to choose authorities that have a good representation of women in the first place? --Skud (WMF) (talk) 02:08, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

somewhat similar idea[edit]

Hey Superm401, your idea is somewhat similar to my idea Grants:IdeaLab/Gender_Gap_Visualizer, do you want to collaborate and create a shared grant proposal? Alleycat80 (talk) 00:08, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
