Developing the idea[edit]

@Juandev: Hi there. I am interested by your idea for making Wikimedia projects more supportive to people that are more sociable. I think there are lots of ways to make this happen, including some of the points you listed. I wanted to check in and see if you are interested in turning this into a grant proposal - and if not, whether you may have others in mind who may want to work on this or further develop the idea before the deadline on March 31. Thank you for the feedback. I hope more people and feedback will emerge. In the following days I will contact some other Wikimedians, who might be interesting in cooperation on such project.--Juandev (talk) 21:58, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This sounds in principle good. It seems likely to me that making more room for sociable editing would indeed increase the proportion of women in the editor base. I suggest care though in articulating what are your goals with this project exactly; "women" and "sociable people" are not the same demographic. Is the main premise to reach out to sociable people of any kinds, with the hope that this newly attracted editor demographic will be less men-dominated? Or is it to reach out to sociable women in particular? (I believe we can agree that "reaching out to all women and telling them that they must adhere to a stereotype of sociability" should, at least, be ruled out.) --Tropylium (talk) 00:43, 20 March 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The main premise is to reach out to "sociable people", because I cannot imagine the way, how we could hit only sociable women and remove sociable man. There is the idea of making a WikiProject Women, which I understand like a place for women only. On the other side my idea is to create place outside of Wikipedia, but inside Wikimedia movment for "sociable people" and give them a right to create e.g. "women only" groups.
The expectation is that sociable people consists of more women than man. On the beggining we would work mainly with women, but I would not close it to men, who might be interested.--Juandev (talk) 07:20, 20 March 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hey Juandev, I like this idea. Why not develop it as a small scale pilot (maybe in your local community) and run it for a short while? If you need help to turn this into a simple grant proposal, let me know on my talk page (on Meta). Alleycat80 (talk) 00:00, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well I havent come up with the grant proposal, because I have a seasonal job and I expect, I will not have a time in summer. Maybe I would develope it into proposel for a winter season.--Juandev (talk) 11:41, 1 April 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
