Grants:IdeaLab/A place to work together tries to address the root issue instead. Nemo 10:32, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you think we already have too many areas in which the Board and the Community engage in long-term strategic planning, please name five. If you think we have too many in which the Board and the Community fail to do so, then we are in agreement.
I don't see your proposal from 2014 and this one as being directly comparable. I'm trying to articulate a specific and, I believe, highly important requirement and hope that there will be some degree of consensus behind it which can then build out into a solution. It seems to me that the root issue is whether or not there is a genuine desire for strategic engagement at a high level. The other proposal ssems to me to address a broad range of tactical and technical issues about how a solution to a whole range of problems might be engineered. I also hope that we have moved on from the atmosphere of 2014 when the Board's attitude to the community was distinctly less amenable to constructive engagement, to put it mildly. If indeed the Board is still adamant that the community has no part to play in long-term strategic thinking, then we might as well shut up shop now. Five? I could name fifty. :) Nemo 14:49, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It would be helpful to point to examples of venues where the Board and the Community have in the past engaged, or attempted to engage, in long-term strategic planning. It would be even more helpful to understand what you saw as the advanatages and disadvantages of some representative examples of those venues. It would also be helpful to hear what you thought were the advantages and disadvantages of trying to centralise those discussions. Please contribute what evidence you can to the discussion. As far as I am concerned, if someone can point to an extant and effective locus for such discussions, that would go a long way to making this proposal redundant.
