Hi Nattes à chat. Thank you for submitting your proposal! We are very impressed with your project plan, partnership with WMCH, and thoughtfulness about how to equip new editors with skills need to not just edit, but engage constructively with the Wikimedia community. We're also excited about your strategy to develop male allies. We're doing a final review of proposals in the next two days and have the following remaining questions:

1. It's great to see that you've planned a series of editing sessions. Is your plan to have participants come to multiple sessions? Our experience shows that people that attend a number of events over a short time period are much more likely to continue editing. We would encourage this model and plan sessions that gradually teach more advanced wiki skills.
   

We have planned to have three sessions( Q415/Q116/Q216) of 6 workshops each, so over the period of 3 quarters, a total of 18 workshops will take place. A participant goes through a complete session, therefore attending 6 workshops. The idea is for them to build a solid understanding of how to contribute on Wikipedia and to build their self confidence to become active contributors.
We are aiming towards creating an ongoing contributing community, so we'll encourage the participants to come back to the next sessions as "mentors" to keep building the community. As we work closely with the University, we will be able to provide participants at the end of a session of 6 workshops with: a certificate of participation issued from the university, a Linkedin recommandation for the contribution. We plan to edit a book using the wiki PDF editing facility with the result. Mrs Mantilleri, who is the Head of the Office for equal opportunity here at the University of Geneva has in the past published books on outstanding swiss women and is thrilled by the prospect of the hard work done in the past to be now used to edit wiki articles and possibly a book.

1. We understand you will be using two books about Swiss women from which to source articles. How many women are included in these books? Do you have an idea of how many of them already have articles on Wikipedia? If yes, are they stub articles or more developed ones? How many articles do you plan to create/improve during this project?
   

We have started a list identifying the articles on swiss latin women that could be both completed and created. For the moment, and the work is not finished, including the list done by an editathon held in Lausanne for the International Woman's day and the 4 books (yes now it is four!), we have 170 entries. Out of those only 42 articles currently exist. I think there will probably be 300 entries very soon. The idea is to have participants to choose from that list (or add an entry) to contribute. We will ask them to engage themselves to write one article, which means that with 3 sessions including 20 persons we will have a minimum of 60 articles created. 1. We're very happy to see that you have the WMCH Community Organizer on the team to provide support. Having experienced Wikimedians at your events to help train and do follow-up will be critical to your success. We see that LaMèreVeille will serve as an advisor to monitor wiki pages, which is very useful. However, please let us know if you have recruited other Wikimedians who are experienced in engaging with the Wikimedia community around issues of notability, citations, etc. that often arise when editing about women.
   

The WMCH community liaison will bring senior contributors at the first workshop and the last (each session has 6 workshops taking place every two weeks to enable people to work at home and come back with questions). There are at present wiki open door workshops taking place within the local libraries where these contributors contribute allready. We have not yet promoted the project as we are waiting to have a clear vision of our budget.

1. Please clarify the number of workshops you aim to hold. At the beginning of the proposal it says 6, but the budget says 18. Does this mean you'll be holding 6 workshops that include 3 sessions each? If yes, do you have a sense of what skills you will be covering in the 3 sessions for each workshop? The proposal mentions a French version with detailed overview of the workshops. Please link to this project documentation if possible.
   

3 sessions of 6 workshops. The participants come to 6 workshops in a row, and then we start a new session. This will take place over a year, so we will have a total of 3 x 9 = 18 workshops. These 6 workshops will be addressing:

1. introduction to Wikipedia & explaining the gender gap & identifying participants area of contribution
   
2. learning the basics of modifying and creating an article
   
3. responding to feedbacks from the community
   
4. how to look for information to provide references : technical tools for internet "watch"
   
5. using inclusive language: writing techniques
   
6. closing and meeting senior contributors to assess contributions
   

Skills needed and how we are addressing them at this stage:

1. technical writing on Wikipedia and linking with senior contributing community in Wikipedia : WMCH Community Organizer
2. technical search of information on the internet: La Mère Veille. She is an mechanical engineer specialized in teaching to local business schools how to put internet watch tools in place to find relevant information
3. writing skills and gender perspective and linking with the university community + digital strategy specialist for project promotion + fundraising & administration of project: Nattes à Chat. She has been active as a columnist in Le Temps and has the gender perspective from her position at the equal opportunity office of the University of Geneva.

La Mère Veille will be paid by another foundation (project will be presented to them on the 14th of may), and Nattes à Chat will dedicate a 10% increase of her actual working hours to the job, paid by the University of Geneva (Equal opportunity Office).

1. Will the books be owned by Wikimedia Switzerland after the project is over for use by the community?
   

We were actually thinking of replicating the workshops in the future, so the books could be of use. However we are not imagining doing something apart from Wikimedia Switzerland, so if Wikipedia is financing the books, we have no objections in giving them. The books will be available during the workshops in sufficient number for the participants and they will be able to borrow them to work from home later on.

1. Please let us know what writing material will be needed for the workshops (500 CHF) and what promotion/communication (500 CHF) you will be doing.
   

• Communication

We hope to do the main part of the communication free of charge via press releases and UNIGE & WMCH's usual communication channels but we would also appreciate the opportunity to do some targeted communication to women on social medias and magazines for which we would need a budget.

• Printing

We would print flyers to advertise the workshop, and also distribute printed material such as tips & guidelines as well as a list with the wikicode during the workshops. Additional comments from the Committee: Appreciate specific goals to write about women, recruit women, and train women to be trainers. Can definitely be done in this time frame and adapted for future use in other chapters or in future education programs. Would like to know more about the specific areas of editing. For example, the proposal states "we aim at completing all the entries of the swiss women listed in 2 books”. Which articles? Do they exist in stub form or need to be created? Would recommend doing at least one event with online streaming for a broader audience. Good support from the French Community Liaison from Wikimedia Switzerland. Don't see much online engagement with existing Wikipedia projects. Would love to see some community notifications. Would like a more specific explanation of the target community beyond just “researchers” and more information on the project team. Would like to know if Wikimedia Switzerland will also be contributing funds. Awarding certificates from the university for women who complete the program is an interesting motivation tactic. Very interested to know how they will summarize their lessons learned and best practices in a way that is sharable and replicable across the Wikimedia movement. Realistic goals (15-20 participants with 5 new editors per sessions), but it might be more effective to aim for the same 15-20 participations per session with a higher retention rate of new editors.

First workshop held successfully on the 6th of october

We had our first workshop today with 24 participants. The project has benefited from wide media coverage, we had the swiss francophone television in for our first workshop today.

Number of created articles: we overeached the target!

Hi there, if anyone is reading this talk page, we are happy to announce that:

- we have succeeded in having 70 articles published to this date (a few more to come before the end of June)

- we succeeded in having a few contributors coming back as mentors

- we engaged one WMCH board member User:GastelEtzwane to actually help us on a voluntary basis for every single workshop. He was able to show the particpants what the KIWIX project was about, and WMCH kindly provided USB Kiwix keys. This was particularly appreciated! We want to thank him for his support and engagement.

- we engaged virtual participants from the Wikipedian community: this is something we had not thought of in the first place.

- we managed to place another workshop at the HES-SO (entirely funded by this institution).

- we started engaging with the Women in red, who re-tweet some of the translated articles

- the Rosette Wolczak article, in its English version, will appear on the DYK at the beginning of June

- we are engaging discussion with other institutions for next year

- we are part of a project to present the results of the workshops at the Francophone convention in August and have submitted two presentation proposals.
