Alliances Fund proposal approved in the amount of SGD 134,188 for 2023 to 2024[edit]

Congratulations! Your grant is approved in the amount of SGD 134,188 with a grant term starting 1 July 2023 and ending 30 June 2024.


The opportunities that we see:

  • This project has the potential to kickstart and sustain a volunteer movement using and contributing to wikiprojects in Singapore where we have a nascent Wikimedian community. We also recognised that your project is in alignment with 2030 movement strategy goals specifically 1,2, and 9.
  • Being new to the Wikimedian movement, and without a formal affiliate in Singapore, we recognise the groundwork that you’ve invested to build networks within the global community (12-18 months lead time before putting in an application). These networks, peer sharing and technical partnerships will be pertinent in navigating, contributing and delivering on your project milestones.


The potential risks that we see:

  • As with any technology driven work, this project that you are embarking on will require further funding after the first year. This is also reflected in your application when you mapped out the implementation plan in phases. While you also have identified other avenues of resourcing post project (e.g. My Community's unique funding model, engaging volunteers to support maintenance etc), we would encourage you to test out these assumptions early.
  • We appreciate your efforts to elaborate on the potential risk for the project and acknowledge that you have also identified mitigating strategies to address them.


Snippets from WMF Staff (thematic focused)

  • (FR): Community archives often hold records relating to living persons. Wikibase is our only project that allows for private and semi-private records. It will be interesting to see how they develop policies for privacy and access and this could be an interesting case study for many different types of archives.
  • (SP): The budget that they are proposed are quite high a further discussion need to be done to reach the optimal budget based on their proposed metric (adjusting the number of Wikidata volunteers who participate in the event or increasing the number of engagement)
    • We noted that you have provided a response to this comment as part of the question and responses during the review process of the grant (see thread above). Beyond content and contribution data, you can also think about process level metrics that are linked to your milestones. These learnings and resources can serve as future references for similar community archive projects within the region. Currently there are 3 ongoing projects in the ESEAP region. This is another way where you can contribute to the learning culture of the Wikimedia movement.
