Endorsement[edit]

1. I think that the development of this tool will be very beneficial in the battle against spam and advertisements on the Vietnamese Wikipedia. Currently, the only real solution available to our Wikipedia community to address this issue is the laborious task of manually reviewing every edited version one at a time. I believe that this tool will quickly come as the best resolve to the issue I've mentioned.
2. I am aware that this project's specification and plan have been worked out in great detail. This aids in the community's deepest understanding of the project's purpose and method. The large number of members who signed on to support the project is evidence of support in our community.
4. As previously indicated, this project will significantly aid the Vietnamese Wikipedia, which is the target of this tool. Once more, the tool will assist in automating certain tasks and lessen the patrollers' workload. This should be seen as an important development for our project.

Endorsement from MrMisterer (talk)[edit]

1. This tool, if successfully developed and implemented, would go a long way with regards to anti-spam work. As a regular patroller of the Vietnamese language Wikipedia, I can definitely say that we are seeing more frequent link spamming. We are also seeing more sophisticated link spam techniques, employed to conceal the links from patrollers. As a results, spam links in articles are getting more numerous and tend to last longer before detection and removal. All this is to say that I believe the usual anti-vandalism tools are no longer sufficient, and new tools need to be developed to save patrollers both time and effort.

5. I think the proposal is coherent in terms of the objectives, strategies, budget, and the metrics with which to measure results.

Update on your grant application[edit]

Hello @Plantaest,

Thank you for putting in a grant application. We hope your current grant is going well. Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Comprehensive link checking tool (ID: 22451570) (with an end date on 30 June 2024 and report due on 30 July 2024)

We are circling back to share about the eligibility criteria for Rapid Fund Grant.

As an individual, before applying for a new Rapid Fund you will need to submit the report for the open Rapid Fund. In some cases, the Program Officer may request to review the report before applicant is able to submit a new grant request.

Hence, we are not able to move your application forward at this point. We'll have to mark your application as decline.

Thank you once again for your contribution to the movement and we look forward to your next grant application when ready.

@JChen (WMF): Thank you, Jacqueline,
Please forgive me for not reading the regulations carefully. Nevertheless, I wonder if we can negotiate. If I am allowed to postpone the start date of this grant to after July 30th, specifically to change the start date to August 1st, could this grant be reconsidered? This would ensure that the two grants do not overlap in terms of time.
Regarding the report for the first grant, I will try to submit it before July 15th to gather some additional data. Currently, this project has stabilized, and I have written relatively comprehensively about it here: en:User:Plantaest/Feverfew. I have introduced it to the communities, and people are using the tool at this address: https://feverfew.toolforge.org/.
If negotiation is not possible, I accept moving the grant to the next round. However, this will affect some upcoming plans of the Vietnamese Wikipedia community as well as my personal time, so it will be quite difficult if the implementation time is too late (until September 30th). The last months of the year are usually quite busy for me.
I hope the team will consider this.
Sincerely,
Dang (Plantaest). Plantaest (talk) 13:04, 28 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
