Initial suggestions from the South Asia Regional Funds Committee[edit]

Hi @Vikashegde, thank you for sharing this application for a meet-up organised to bring Kannada Wikimedians together. The South Asia Regional Funds Committee believes that hosting an offline meet-up can be very motivating for participants and this event can be very useful for community development and can help to increase overall engagement resulting increase in content and engagement.

We would like to understand the following points a little better before we make a final decision:

    • Number of participants calculation is confusing. It is mentioned the target for “Number of Participants” is 60. However it is also mentioned that Number of participants - 60, Number of editors - 60, Number of organisers - 4, which makes total of 124 people. Are the participants different from editors? What would these differences signify?
As this is existing Wikimedians meetup, participants and organisers are the editors themselves. So, total is 60 only. There may be a few guests for inaugration who are not considered as participants. --ವಿಕಾಸ್ ಹೆಗಡೆ | Vikas Hegde (talk)
    • Need some clear information about the scholarships that will be provided. How will the participants register for this event and who are eligible to register? If the total number of applicants for participation exceeds 60, then what will happen? Are there are criteria/s set up for sorting out the 60 participants if the applicants number is more than 60?
An event page will be created and participation aspirants will be asked to register there. Anybody who is currently an editor in any of Kannada Wikimedia projects is eligible. As our organising capacity and budget is limited to max 60 only, if registration exceeds this, we have to select based on contributions, active editing in recent months/years, edit counts in Kannada Wikimedia projects. We hope we have best estimated participants no. as 60. Above this, if anybody want to participate, they are welcome in their own expenditure.--ವಿಕಾಸ್ ಹೆಗಡೆ | Vikas Hegde (talk)
    • In the budget break down provided (spreadsheet) SL no. 3 item details, it says ‘Hotel Rooms for one day’ and Qty column says 10. On the note column it mentions, “5 rooms (2 person per room)”. It is not clear if the budget is for 5 rooms or 10 rooms?
Budget is for 10 rooms only. Plan is to have such rooms that can be shared for 2 persons if required. People coming from far away places need rooms and a few participants from coastal places may also need rooms. 'Description' column was wrongly stated.   • YesY Support Support I strongly support this grant request. It is now more than 5 years since the last time Kannada Wikimedians in-person meetup happened. Due to Covid-19 most in-person activities had to stop. This will be the first time such a meetup is happening post-Covid. Funding recommendation[edit]

The South Asia Regional Funds Committee approves full funding to the upcoming Kannada Wikimedians meet-up. We would like to know how the meet-up will help in increasing the engagement across Kannada Wikimedia projects in the report that will be shared with us.
