Follow-up questions[edit]

Hello @आर्या जोशी,

Thank you for submitting your rapid fund application. We have reviewed the application and have some further questions, which we would like your response here on the talk page:

1) Re question 3, could you provide further elaboration on your proposed itinerary for your trip? For example, which activities will you be doing during the Siddhavesha festival? Could you also speak more to the qualitative research approach that you have in mind?

  • Thank you for your question. Siddhavesha festival is a kind of knowledge source related with the local culture which is not documented yet as per the concern of Karavali wiki team. Recently I did one project based ona culture of Northeast India and my project was based on the same idea. There are many small pockets in the villages of India where there local traditional knowledge preserved by only oral method since centuries. This is a huge important cultural source of knowledge which need to get documented for next generations.

In the qualitative research you are supposed to visit the filed and need to take interviews of the people. This will be your primary data and with the help of that data you will get ample of knowledge. Karavali team is going to shoot all the Siddhavesh Festival and as a participant I will also take interviews of the local people and try to gather some information. I will used this information for creating different articles on Marathi and Hindi wikipedia. It is necessary to craete good research articles also which we can upload on wikibooks. As being a researcher from the field of Culture of India,I have this kind of experiences with me so I want to use my expertise to add some values to this project which will enrich wiki platforms also, During my visit I will get experience of various traditional activities during the festival. There is a lot of scope to create wikipedia articles on each and every sub topic related with this local tradition.--आर्या जोशी (talk) 01:27, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

2) Re question 6.1, could you provide further elaboration on what you mean by "This theme will be lead Wiki Loves Folklore"

  • Thank you for your question.AS being a committee member of SA grant when I recevied this application for grant I find a potential in this project which leads to Wiki Loves Folklore.AS I have mentioned in the first question I recently deal with a research project based on Folk Culture of NorthEast India.I am regularly editing Marathi Wikipedia and the subject which I am focusing is Indian festivals, tradition, culture etc. As a research point of view the concept of Folklore do not have any specific well defined meaning. Many anthropologist tried to make the same as per their own perspective.

Wiki loves folklore is a highly accepted concept by wikimedians on the globe. Every society have its own precious culture. In India especially there are several cultural schemes or concepts based on mythological stories. Personally I read various anceint Sanskrit Scriptures in which you can fine these similarities . For example in Mahrashtra we have a similar kind of festival named Sankasur which is nearby with Siddhvesha. Snakasur have various ancient textual references whereas Siddhavesh do not have this kind of literary evidences. For Wiki loves folklore I want to spread this kind of idea where the knowledge from the ancient scripts go hand by hand with videography or photography for the documentation of the knowledge. At the same time I am wikimedian, a researcher and nowadays I am doing work as grants committee member. If a commiitee member who is reviewing and approving the grant have knowledge related with the project by the applicant I think it will be a great collaborative work in global perspective. There are many thin layers of knowledge you need to consider while dealing with cultural concepts. My this participation with Karavali team will enrich me also and I would love to share my experiences and attempts for all the aspirants of Wiki Loves folklore around the globe. --आर्या जोशी (talk) 01:43, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

3) Re question 7, could you provide more context on what you mean by "pilot work which encourage other indian wiki communities.", and the potential learnings you have in mind and how it applies to other communities?

  • Thank you for your question. In the pilot work you need to make many attempts and efforts which will offer success to your aim of the project.Pilot work is a very first attempt which teaches you many new things- strength and weakness of your work both at the same time. With the help of your pilot work you can learn many things which you can use to build your further future activities.I have an idea in my mind that where this kind of documentation of culture is supposed to be happen this particular project will guide other Indian wikimedians to use this experience. India have a rich culture and preserving cultural heritage is a great need of time. Due to globalization many rural communities in India are losing their cultural heritage so as a knowledge medium of creation of knowledge Indian wiki communities should build up similar kind of projects and I would be happy to share my knowledge with them. --आर्या जोशी (talk) 01:49, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

4) Re question 9, could you explain more how your experience could add expertise to the Karavali Wiki group's work and also how your learnings could be useful to the wider wikimedia community?

  • I appreciate your efforts because you have reviewed my application in depth. AS I have already mentioned in my previous three answers people like me who are working in any particular field since last many years are supposed to contribute in on field activities. For example while talking about me I am editing articles related with culture on Marathi Wikipedia. I am uploading photos of Culture of Maharashtra on Commons. When any photographer or videographer is catching photos or making a video he have technical knowledge but it may happen that he or she do not have the knowledge of cultural knowledge of that particular piece. For example if any person is catching a photo of any God if he knows the meaning behind the sculptural perspective of that idol he will able to catch apt photo which will highlight the importance of that idol.I want to be this kind of person who will able to give vaious perspectives to the wikimedians.

I hope I have already mentioned other important points in my previous answers. Many times it is necessary to deal and discuss with local scholars about their project. Exchange of knowledge within two different regions of India enrich the cultural platform of Wiki.--आर्या जोशी (talk) 01:56, 21 March 2023 (UTC) 5) Re learning, sharing and evaluation section, to support you in answering the questions, the following reference documents may be useful.Reply
