Endorsment from Akum20 (talk)[edit]

This proposal is important to my community because it will expose a lot of teachers who are in this rural area in Nassarawa state who have not even heard about Wikimedia to many benefits of Wikimedia and other Wiki projects. It will create a great insight into how to use Wikipedia, Wikidata and other Wiki projects in teaching and learning experience thereby improving on the classroom experience The strategies chosen is perfect because apart from online trainings, the in person trainings will create a great chance for one on one interaction where a lot of misconceptions about Wikimedia would be corrected and they will be put through on how to get materials from Wikipedia for their teaching experience in the classroom, how to create articles, edit and navigate around Wikipedia and other Wiki projects. It will improve generally the teachers media and information literacy skills and students ability to access information online. I strongly support this proposal.

Not Funded[edit]

Hello @Oby Ezeilo thank you for applying for the rapid fund grant. We reviewed your application and after a careful review, have decided to not fund this application at this time. We invite you to submit an application in future with a strengthened application, and here's some feedback if helpful;

  • Budget transparency is important as the budget presented did not reflect the local currency (NGN). It is generally good practice to ensure that there is enough clarity for easier assessment of the budget considerations.
  • While the goal of improving Wikipedia articles for educational use is commendable, the proposed impact of enhancing 80 articles does not justify the budget for this project. It would be beneficial to detail how the specific improvements you propose will significantly contribute to Wikipedia and its users.
  • We encourage projects that bring new ideas or build upon existing initiatives in innovative ways. Your proposal has merit, but it appears to have similarities with previous programs. Clarifying how your project builds on existing work or expands on other efforts and contributions would strengthen your application.
  • Finally, given the target audience for this project, adhering to Wikimedia's youth safety policy is crucial and this application does not make this commitment.

Hello@ YPam(WMF) so sorry for responding late, had some challenges that prevented me from responding earlier. Thank you for your feedback. Even though this is not funded I felt I should respond to the various issues raised in the order raised.
· On the issue of Budget, Thank you for your suggestions , I have been putting the budget like that and it has never been an issues but point taken , I will write it in Naira next time.
· On of issue of articles to be created, The reading Wikipedia in the Classroom project is a teacher training programme for Secondary school teachers. The aim is
a. To improve teacher’s media and information Literacy skills
b. Teach teachers how to use Wikipedia as a teaching aid with reference on how to use it to write their lesson plan
c. Educate them on how to access information on Wikipedia page.
d. How to keep students safe online
e. How to verify a reliable and non reliable information
f. How information is created on the Wiki Space
For (‘’f’’) Because they are new to Wikimedia the emphasis with reference to our training module is not to create articles but rather how to use Wikipedia as a reference point in their teaching and learning though they are to do minor edits like correcting grammatical errors, saying thank you for adding reference. It is only after the training that the post training will now concentrate on editing and creating contents.
Below is the detailed info about the programme designed by Wikimedia and Education Team

· On the issue of building new ideas, The programme has a standard curriculum we are to adopt and adapt to our country curriculum so its meant to be similar. When I carried out the programme in Anambra state, I translated the module into Igbo Language for proper and deeper understanding.
If you compare the original curriculum developed by Wikipedia, with the curriculum we are to use in this project, You will notice that it has been modified already to adapt to Nigeria curriculum.
Here is the training module (Teachers Guide), Training slide we are to adopt and adapt and the Lesson Plan
· On the issue of youth safety, we said the programme is not for youths. The programme is for teachers not youths. I did not know that when a programme is not for youth that I am still required to make commitment on youth policy.
Finally , Thank you once more for your guidance. Regards. Oby Ezeilo (talk) 14:46, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
