Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Wacken Open Air 2023 photo pass participation (ID: 22074569)

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Endorsment from Kritzolina (talk)[edit]

  • I strongly endorse this proposal, as I believe a transnational cooperation for this kind of photo project will be beneficial for both communities involved. German language Wikipedians who are not otherwise involved in international programs will benefit from the grantees wide international experience, while he and through him the Polish Wikimedia community will benefit from their expertise in taking pictures in a group at such massive events. This is a peer-to-peer learning side effect not mentioned in the proposal, which I see from my personal experience with Festivalsommer and my knowledge of the grantee. The proposal sounds well planned and the given expectations for results are in line with results from similar projects funded by Wikimedia Germany.

I also want to point out that while the content expected as an outcome of this proposal doesn't close a content gap in the usual sense, it addresses an area where current visual content is very important to our readership. Readers interested in the bands present at Wacken are used to seeing pictures of current stage setups, costumes and so on along with information about the artists they prefer. If Wikipedia articles are not able to show at least some of this content, they will quickly turn to other sources of information. --Kritzolina (talk) 22:13, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Endorsment from Rdrozd (talk)[edit]

Wojciech is a capable and talented concert photographer. I've already seen many great examples of his work on Wikimedia Commons and I believe this grant will allow him to expand the number of professional quality photos on Commons.

Wojciech Pędzich is a very committed Wikimedian, working for free knowledge and the Polish and international community for over 15 years. In addition to editing and involvement in the Movement, over the last ten years he occasionally photographed Wikimedian conferences and museum exhibits. He participated in the Carpathian Ethnography Project, photographed dog shows, and for over a year he has been combining his great passions - music, photography and Wikimedia into one thanks to concert photography. During the last year Wojciech has invested a huge amount of time to photograph, upload to Wikimedia Commons, properly categorize and update photos of dozens (if not more!) of artists in other Wikimedia projects (eg Wikipedia). His contribution is invaluable - Wikipedia lacks good quality photos of artists that are not outdated, and this is a very important element for the reader. The proposal is coherent in terms of the objectives, budget and expected results (metrics). Because of the above I strongly endorse this proposal. --Paulina Studniczka (WMPL) (talk) 10:31, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawal of the grant[edit]

Due to professional reasons outside my control, I will not be able to participate in the W:o:A festival this year. I would like to thank the Grants team for making my dream closer to fulfillment - well, another time will come and I shall reapply. Wojciech Pędzich Talk 16:56, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting us know about this change in your circumstances, Wojciech, and sorry to hear you won't be able to participate this year. Feel free to reach out in the future if you would like to reapply. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 18:06, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
