Active Engagement with the Wikimedia Community[edit]

By contributing high-quality images, videos, and audio files to Wikimedia Commons, improving existing Wikipedia articles, citing reliable sources, and enhancing article content with references, both new and experienced editors will actively participate in the Wikimedia Community. I will be present physically to facilitate the project. Ogalihillary (talk) 18:25, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Boost the reliability of Wikipedia[edit]

There are people who believe that Wikipedia has inherent shortcomings however by executing this project, the participants will understand the need for verifiability in Wikipedia articles and see how Information are supported by reliable sources to verify the claims made in the articles. I will be present physically for the project as one of the facilitator. Accuratecy051 (talk) 06:50, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Significant and long term viability[edit]

Keana is the largest populated city of Alago tribe in Nigeria and I find the strategic location of the project captivating. The project will go a long way to enlighten the populace about Wikimedia projects, encourage them to contribute in terms of local history, cultural practices, landmarks, and notable personalities in Keana that are not adequately represented on Wikipedia by using edit-a-thon. Also, creating Keana Wikimedia Editors will go a long way to ensure that the project is sustained. As a facilitator, I will contribute to ensure the success of the project by coordinating the online sessions. Ibjaja055 (talk) 08:57, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Endorsement[edit]

Wikimedia Training of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Members in Keana is targeted to inform diverse group of people on what Wikimedia entails. Based on my experience working with the project lead on previous Wikimedia projects, I can attest to her competence in project management. I have no doubt she will handle the project effectively as she is equipped with the necessary skills and expertise. As a facilitator, I will contribute to the success of the project by engaging the targeted participants via online sessions on how to participate in Wikimedia Projects. Not Funded[edit]

Hello @Taoheedah thank you for applying for the rapid fund grant. We reviewed your grant application and decided to not fund your application at this time. Here is some feedback that the team might incorporate into any future applications to strengthen the proposal, making it more compelling and feasible for approval

We commend the team for the interest in taking n this initiative. The application focuses on a specific problem within the Keana community, and this clear identification sets a strong foundation for the proposed initiative. Additionally, it is good to read that the team recognizes the need for a tailored approach by focusing on the dominant local language (Hausa) and involving National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members, who are likely to be familiar with the community and its needs. This localized approach enhances the relevance and potential impact of the project.

  • While the overall idea is well-articulated, the application does not have a detailed project plan, including a specific timeline, milestones, and a breakdown of activities. Providing a clear step-by-step plan will help in understanding the project’s feasibility.
  • The application briefly mentions creating a Wikimedia editors' community in Keana, but there is limited detail on how engagement will be sustained beyond the initial training sessions. This is especially because of the fact that the NYSC program has a limited lifetime for each batch. How does the team intend to build and sustain an editor’s community when the target group will disperse after a period of time? A more robust plan for fostering continuous participation, mentorship, and support for new editors is crucial to the success of an initiative like this.
  • While partnerships are mentioned, there is limited information about the nature of collaboration with external partners such as NYSC CLO, Keana local government Inspector, and Young African Leadership Initiative Nasarawa State Chapter. Providing more details on the roles and contributions of these partners will add credibility to the project proposal. For instance, are these partnerships meant to enable longer-term engagements?
  • Finally, the application does not address potential challenges or risks that might arise during the implementation of the project. It's important to identify potential obstacles and outline strategies to mitigate these challenges, demonstrating thorough planning and preparedness.
