Hello Major Lyte, thanks for submitting this Rapid Fund request. While we are excited that you plan to run the Africa Wiki Challenge in Nigeria, we have some concerns regarding the grant request which should be addressed before we can move forward with it:

  • The project is called Africa Wiki Challenge in Nigeria and the goal is "to support the Africa Wiki Challenge 2022 global campaign with a similar national campaign in Nigeria". However, all planned activities will be organized in a specific location through two in-person gatherings. If the project goal is to run the local contest in Nigeria, then it should include activities aimed at engaging people from different regions/communities of Nigeria.
  • Similarly, if it's for Nigerian communities, then it should be discussed with other communities in advance.
  • It would be great if the organizing team has active members from other communities of Nigeria.
  • The budget should be revised and aligned with prices in Nigeria. All expenses with no clear need should be removed.

Please address these concerns by 15 May 2022. We will not move forward with this grant request if the mentioned issues are not resolved. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 09:55, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello DSaroyan (WMF),

Thank you very much for reviewing my proposed grant.

  • The reason for the two in-person gatherings is to train editors who are in catchment areas on how to create and improve local content about festivals, recipes of food, culture, local landmarks, rituals and rites in Nigeria. This is to ensure participation in this year's African Wiki Challenge.
  • Yes, everyone within the Nigerian community is welcome to participate in the AWC, it's open to the entire Nigerian Community.
  • We would be working together with other local language communities in Nigeria in the course of this campaign. A minimum of 3 experienced Wikimedians in Nigeria would be added to the team for organizing this year's campaign. We are also reaching out to potential participants from Nigeria to join the campaign. We are very sure of the overall success as best editors would be brought on board with unprecedented results.
  • The current budget has been revised and updated as requested previously.

Thank you very much for your time.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Dear Major Lyte, thanks for your response. After reviewing your responses and your proposal one more time, we made decision to not fund it this time.

  • As I mentioned above. The project is called Africa Wiki Challenge in Nigeria and the goal is "to support the Africa Wiki Challenge 2022 global campaign with a similar national campaign in Nigeria". However, all planned activities will be organized in a specific location through two in-person gatherings. If the project goal is to run the local contest in Nigeria, then it should include activities aimed at engaging people from different regions/communities of Nigeria. This concern hasn't been addressed.
  • Similarly, if it's for Nigerian communities, then it should be discussed with other communities in advance. This concern hasn't been addressed.
  • The budget should be revised and aligned with prices in Nigeria. All expenses with no clear need should be removed. The budget hasn't been revised. It still includes expenses with no clear need.

You are welcome to address these issues and resubmit your proposal during the next cycle. Please note that there is a new application process. --DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:01, 10 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello DSaroyan (WMF),

  • The reason for the two in-person gatherings is to train editors who are in catchment areas on how to create and improve local content about festivals, recipes of food, culture, local landmarks, rituals and rites in their various languages. As stated earlier.
  • Yes, other communities would join the campaign virtually from their different locations and prizes would be given to top editors in each community.
  • We would be working together with other local language communities in Nigeria in the campaign.
  • The budget were revised and updated.

Thank you very much for your time.
