Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

The local version of the Africa Wiki Challenge 2022 seeks to hold a series of edit-a-thons

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

The Ilorin Wikimedia Hub members have been notified on the official WhatsApp page, see here.

I have also notified the WikiProject Nigeria, see here.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Prospect participants of our local edit-a-thon would be reached out to through Emails, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, phone calls and physical gatherings.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT

Yes, We have experienced users to lead the event. Major Lyte and James Moore200 will lead the event.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes! The participants have laptops and smart phones which can be used during the edit-a-thons. We will be providing unlimited fast-speed internet at the event hall. Most of our community members have the skill to edit Wikipedia. However, we will be introducing new editors to participate in the edit-a-thon.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

We will use our WhatsApp group for the participants to talk and share ideas. We will also send out Google form seeking for feedbacks from the participants. We would also have short meetup with participants to discuss their experience during the campaign. We will also set up a support system to encourage new editors.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This is the second edition of the Africa Wiki Challenge and my community members were unable to participate in contributing to the first edition of the campaign. So, this is an avenue for my community members to contribute to the free knowledge platform.

Impact[edit]
