Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Dagbani Wikimedians/Wiki Loves Folklore 2021 Ghana

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Comments from WMF[edit]

Hello Dagbani Wikimedians, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant request. We are excited that you are joining the Wiki Loves Folklore contest by documenting the traditions and culture of the northern part of Ghana. I reviewed your request and have the following questions:

  • Is this going to be the only Wiki Loves Folklore grant from Ghana? Since last year’s organizer was the Global Open Initiative, do you have any information whether it plans to apply for a similar WLF proposal?
  • Please add a second representative from your planned User Group, who will also co-sign the grant agreement if this request is approved.
  • Are you planning to award prizes for the best photos or best contributions?
  • Could you please explain the difference between Internet Data Allowance and Internet Data for Workshop items in your budget?
  • Have you already selected the photowalk participants or you are planning to announce an open call? How are you going to reach out to potential photowalk participants?
  • Please confirm that you will notify about this project on your community pages of Meta, Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
  • Will the uploaded photos be only from the photowalks or you are also going to reach out to the wider community to gather any folklore-related photographs?
  • Do you have any list of potential cultural events, traditions, folklore activities which lack photos on Wikimedia projects and you plan to document? If you don’t have any, I kindly ask you to create one and add to the grant page. This doesn't need to be a complete list. Additionaly, which articles will you be editing on Wikipedia?
  • Given that you are planning to have 10 participants in each photowalk, how will you make sure to avoid duplicate photos?
  • In your budget, please limit the number of T-shirts to 10 maximum.

Looking forward to your responses. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:10, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DSaroyan (WMF), Thank you for your comments and questions.
  • I think this is going to be the only Wiki Loves Folklore grant from Ghana. Global Open Initiative will not be participating, and have recommended Dagbani Wikimedians to join.
  • Second representative added.
  • Yes, we will award 3 prizes: 1. Best photo, 2. Best contributor and 3. 2nd best contributor. (Updated in the table)
  • Internet Data Allowance is the cost of data allowance for all participants for uploading their entries remotely whereas Internet Data for Workshop is the cost of data for the upload session and Wikipedia editathon for 10 selected participants.
  • Call for participation to be announced on January 18, 2021, via our social media pages, mailing list and WhatsApp group.
  • I confirm that we will notify our community about this project on our meta page, Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
  • We will invite all Wikimedia community members across the country to participate. While the 3 photowalks will contribute a minimum of 300 photos, We expect at least 100 photos from the wider community.
  • List potential Folklore activities from the north added. We will be writing Dagbani articles about some unique northern cuisines, like Tubaani, Tuo zaafi, Wasawasa and many more.
  • Participants will be assigned a specific list to capture at each photowalk to avoid duplication of photos.
  • We want to appreciate 10 other participants who may not be able to join us for the photowalks but have made significant contributions. 10 additional T-shirts for remote contributors. Please let me know what you think.

many thanks and I look forward to the next steps. Shahadusadik (talk) 22:26, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
