Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)[edit]

Hi Udehb, thanks again for submitting this grant application. I reviewed it and have the following questions and comments:

  • Do you have any list of Wikidata items to work on? Did you conduct any initial research to see if data on Nigerian food is available on Wikidata?
  • Do you expect to welcome 20 participants in each event or this is the total number of participants?
  • If this is the total number of participants, are you going to have only 4 participants per event (20/5)? Does this number also include the number of project organizers?
  • If you expect to have 20 participants in general, I have to ask you to reduce the number of Wikidata branded shirts/branded flasks to 7.
  • In your detailed budget you have 150 USD for the graphic design expenses. I have some concerns around this expense:
    • How many and what kind of materials do you intend to produce?
    • You had the same budget during your last event, and I can see that you’ve only produced 5 similar images. Could you please provide more details on how you spent this budget during the Wikidata hospitals project?
    • Did you consider simply reusing these photos for your upcoming event instead of creating new designs?
    • Additionally, in the file descriptions, I can see that the files are your own work (see for example here. Did you receive any payment to produce these images?
  • Please reduce the miscellaneous expenses by half (50 USD).

Looking forward to your response. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:37, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Response from Udehb[edit]

hello DSaroyan (WMF), thanks for the questions/concerns. the following are my response:

  • Yes the list is for Nigerian dishes. I did a simple query on wikidata for Nigerian foods and found it lacking. but found an article on Nigeria cuisines on english wikipedia.
  • Yes, the target is to have 20 participants in each event and from my experience, most of the 20 participants are repeat participants.
  • for the concerns on the digital flyers
    • 5 digital flyers.
    • yes we had different designs for each event day but told him to revert it to have a similar design so we have a signature design for the project.
    • Yes I did. I considered reusing the flyers but the event dates were different and that would have been an issue
    • No the design is not done by me but the license and the image is what am paying for.
  • Miscellaneous expenses has been reduced to 50 USD

Thanks once more for the questions/comments. Regards Benedict Udeh --Udehb (talk) 06:49, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Additional comments[edit]

Hi Udehb, thank you for the response. I have additional requests:

  • Given that most of 20 participants will be repeat participants, please reduce the number of Wikidata branded shirts/branded flasks to 10.
  • I think that the proposed graphic design expenses are high. Please reduce this cost to 50 USD.

Additional response[edit]

hello DSaroyan (WMF),

  • The idea of giving as much as those that actively participates is to encourage all to do so. From the last project, I observed that the reason some didn't contribute especially those who joined the project late, was because they felt they stand no chance of winning and lacked interest/motivation in the contest and to combat that, I felt its best to instead of having the contest for top 3, gift as much as those that actively contribute. Hence the 15. but I have reduced it to 10 as requested.

Thanks for your inputs so far. Regards Benedict Udeh --Udehb (talk) 12:37, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Udehb: thank you! I think your explanation makes sense, so please increase the number of Wikidata branded shirts/branded flasks back to 15. Apologies for lots of back and forth. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:41, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @DSaroyan (WMF):. done the adjustment --Udehb (talk) 13:12, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
