Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Krishna Chaitanya Velaga/VVIT Edit-a-thon 2017 Part 2/Report

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi Krishna Chaitanya Velaga. Thank you for this detailed grant report and all your efforts to organize the second editathon at VVIT. It sounds like the editathon was a success in terms of participation, training/skill building, article creation/improvement, and engaging students in a more sustained way. 113 articles created/improved by 33 editors seems like a lot, especially considering a lot of them are newer editors. How was this accomplished? We are looking forward to hearing how the WikiConnect club develops over the next year. Have you already started the regular meetings? The possibility of an education program sounds interesting! Thank you also for soliciting feedback from the participants -- it helps us better understand what they got out of the event. Thank you again for all your work for the movement! Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 04:48, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@AWang (WMF): Greetings Alex, thanks for reviewing the report. So, as I have mentioned in the report, the edit-a-thon was conducted in two sessions, on 23 & 25 November 2017. So here the participants were in interaction with me from 23 to 25 November 2017. So each day I asked them to take up and article, and work on it. So, on average every participant improved three articles, and some may have did four. This easily gives the count of 113. Regarding the plans for WikiConnect, in the coming we wish to adopt a simple annual plan with various activities and campaigns, funded by a Rapid Grant (June 2018 – March 2018). Yes, we did meet once after the edit-a-thon, continue regular weekly/bi-weekly meetings. Also, during Nichole Saad's (Program Manager, Wikipedia Education Program) official tour to India, she made a visit to the college, and interacted with the management and a few members of the club.
