Comments and questions from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

Hey Felix, thanks for your report on the Ashesi Education Program. Here are my comments and questions on your outreach efforts:

  • Congratulations on running successful info sessions that were well-attended at the university.
  • What sort of training and support were the ambassadors able to provide? During the course of the program, what kinds of support did they actually provide to students, and how did they engage students?
  • I'm sure it was disappointing that the computer science partnership did not work out due to scheduling difficulties and that the lecturer became ill. Are there other departments that you have considered working with in the future?
  • At the end of your report, you remarked that you learned a lot of local/on-campus knowledge from students that helped your activities to be successful. What sort of things did you learn from these interactions that aided your activities?

When you're able, please respond to my questions above. I am aware of the circumstances regarding the expense report for this project through past e-mails, please update us on the documentation when it is available. When you have submitted available documentation, we can approve this report. Thanks for your hard work and productive engagement at Ashesi University. @Flixtey: Hi Felix, I have approved the report based on the expense documentation you've provided. When you're able, could you also respond to the above questions? Thanks so much. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:15, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Response;

Hello Chris, thanks for accepting our report.
  • So the ambassadors formed the executive of the Wiki Club Ashesi, they organised informal gettogether events on weekends where students came to perfect their skills on editing. They also once a while started the creation of some articles and encouraged the continuation of others by sharing what they had started. This we saw continued to remind students of how they could easily contribute to Wikipedia.
  • We have begun talks with the computer science department again but also spoken to the computer science student body to host a training session for them.
  • We learnt a lot in the sense that these students introduced better channels of communication such as employing the use of the all students mailing lists (which we couldn't have accessed because we were not students, the use of whats app and telegram to constantly engage students. Also because they knew the school schedule better, they helped us find suitable times that made it easy for students and also made sure we choose free times that would not inconvenience the students. We learnt that sometimes some free times are not ideal, as students often use these times to distress.
Thanks once again --Flixtey (talk) 09:57, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
