Grants talk:Project/Rapid/UG GR/Wiki Loves Earth in Greece 2017

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi Magioladitis, Geraki, and Badseed. Thank you for this detailed grant proposal and efforts to organize another Wiki Loves Earth in Greece! We have a few questions and look forward to your responses.

  1. You have a great goal of covering 20 new areas in this year's contest. How many protected areas are there in Greece and how many were photographed last year? Are you doing anything specifically to support achieving this goal?
  2. You had an impressive number of submissions last year and it would be great to see more photos in use. Of the 3,308 submitted to Commons in 2016, 249 (7.53%) are in use on the Wikimedia projects. This year your goal is 10% after 4 months. What will you do to support integration of photos into articles? Some groups offer a prize for the person who integrates the most number of photos or organize events focused on uploading and integration.
  3. If you would like to request swag, please be sure to follow the instructions on this page.
  4. In terms of the budget, finding a free venue is of course ideal : )

Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk)

Hi Alex.

Map of Natura 2000 protected areas
  1. There are 371 protected areas within the Natura 2000 network. Last year we had photos with at least 248 unique IDs. Some areas are harder to approach while others are close to big cities, so we understand that we will still have an uneven number of photos. We will try to identify areas that we did not have any photos and advertise them as examples.
  2. Last year we did not manage to fully categorize the photos according to the area. For this year we already have a small script that can make a table of photos and areas, so that it will be easier for users to pair photos and articles. Also the plan is that the final event ("award ceremony") will include an editathon for integrating photos in articles.
