Report accepted[edit]

Hi, fjmustak, congratulations on completing your grant!

Your complete grant report and your expense documentation have been reviewed and accepted. Thank you for your engagement with the reporting review process, and with your work throughout the grants process. We appreciate the outcomes from your project, and what you learned with WMF and the community. Here are a few questions for reflection from us:

  • What, if anything, could have been done differently to make sure the program at the Law college in An-Najah University was conducted?
For a program to succeed, both the instructor and the group of students need to be committed to it. I believe before starting a program, we need to make sure that the instructor has the will/time/interest in the program, because eventually they will be the enforcers of participation. In the case of the Law School course, it seemed that the professor was interested at the beginning, but lost the momentum as the program was starting, which in turn made the students lose interest. Of course, one cannot always foresee how things will go.
  • What might you do differently in the future to meet your targets for the number of students participating?
While this is not easily applicable in all cases, making participation mandatory and enforceable by the instructors seems to be the only sure way to guarantee participation. At Birzeit University, participation was mandatory, thus the number of participating students was well known in advance. At An-Najah University and Talae' Al-Amal school, not everyone that showed initial interest followed through, as there was only encouragement by the instructors, and no enforcement.

We also warmly welcome any updates you would like to provide us about your completed project. We thank you for your work for the movement, and offer you our best wishes for your future work.

Hi, fjmustak, thank you for those thoughtful responses. Engagement from professors is definitely key to making a program successful. I'm sorry interest faded with the faculty at the Law College, but deciding not to run the program in that situation makes perfect sense.
