Remaining funds[edit]

Hi Davit. Further to our email conversations, I would like to propose the balance funds be used for a photo project, as it was done last time. The subject(s) of the photo project would primarily be natural landmarks such as mountains, caves, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, other natural landmarks, and any other subjects enroute that is missing photos. The list of exact targets will be worked on in the coming weeks, taking into consideration the travel duration and route options.

Considering that Sri Lanka is going into a 2nd Covid-19 wave, upcoming curfew rules, and the offline availability of volunteers to carry out this project, I would like to request for a project period of up to 30 June 2021. This would also allow us to do smaller 2-day projects over multiple weekends, as and when the conditions are right. We hope to complete this project sooner, but should more time be needed we will certainly get back. And should the project not be feasibly at some point in the future due to the unlikely events of worsening outbreak, I will also reach back to you.

As for budgeting, of the account closing balance stated in the email, I would like to request LKR 80,000 for this project, leaving the remaining for the account minimum balance as usual. I expect 40% would be used for logistics/fuel, 40% for accommodation and meals, and 20% for other incidentals such as any tickets, etc. Please do let me know if this is ok, or if you require any further information. Thank you again for all the support, Rehman 10:44, 25 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rehman, thanks for posting your request here. I have reviewed it and have two follow-up questions.
  • Could you please provide a more specific amount of the underspend under the Remaining funds section of the report? Are you going to use all the remaining funds?
  • Are you planning to organize any in-person gatherings during your photowalks?
Please respond to my questions, so that I'll move forward and approve your request. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:28, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Davit. My apologies, I wanted to update that, but forgot to do so.
  • Of the LKR 261,150.00 credited to the UGLK account (and combined bank cr interest and opening balance of LKR 4,397.82), LKR 183,650.15 was used. Leaving a balance of 81,897.67. This was detailed further in the email sent to the grants admin earlier.
  • Yes, of no more than 4-6 people depending on logistical needs. The in-person photo project would be conducted only after the Covid situation improves, and when the government reconfirms gatherings are safe. As was the case up to about a week ago. It is also the reason we have requested an extended project period.
Feel free to let me know if you have any further clarifications. Thanks! Rehman 03:49, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request approved[edit]

Hello Rehman, thanks for your responses. I am approving your requests.

  • You can use LKR 80,000 from the remaining funds to organize a photowalk with the budget posted on this page.
  • The project end date is 30 June 2021. You need to submit an additional report on this page by 30 July 2021. You will also need to send the additional expense documents to WMF.

Noted with thanks, Davit. Take care, Rehman 08:42, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Report accepted[edit]

Hello Rehman, thanks for organizing the Wiki Loves Earth contest in Sri Lanka. We are excited about the awesome photos that you have as a result of this contest. The number of participants and images are also really impressive, and we are glad that you met and exceeded all initial targets. I have reviewed your final report and have only one request:

  • Could you please update the last target — Natural sites photographed — when you have more information?

Thanks again for all the contributions and your overall work on this project. I have accepted your final report and expense documents. However, please note that this grant will be complete only when we receive and accept the additional report and its expense documents. I am wishing you all the best for your photowalk! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:42, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline extension due to Covid-19[edit]

Hello Davit. I apologise for the lack of updates. Sri Lanka is undergoing a deadly 3rd Covid-19 wave, together with an economic crisis. We have no choice but to wait further, even though we are unsure when this will normalise again. Please could the deadline be extended till at least end of Q1 2022? I've been down with Covid too and managed to survive. Unfortunately, my dearest mum did not. Our small family is devastated, and would need a bit of time off to plan our way forward. Rehman 07:34, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Rehman, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Please accept our deepest condolences. It's OK if you can't carry out the project now. I'm extending the reporting due date to March 31, 2022. Please note that you can cancel this project if you think you are not able to implement it or if the COVID-19 situation does not get better in Sri Lanka. Please take care!
