Comments from WMF[edit]

Hello Naomi Moeng, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant request. I reviewed your request and have some questions and comments that I would like you to address.

  • Are you planning to organize any offline (in-person) gatherings and activities in terms of this grant?
  • Your experience on the Wikimedia projects is very limited. Moreover, you do not have any contributions made to the Tswana Wikipedia. Do you have other team members who have substantial contributions to the Wikimedia projects, particularly to Tswana Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons? Please add their usernames to the proposal page. We cannot move forward with this request until we are not sure that there are people in the organizing team who have experience working on Wikimedia projects.
  • Please also add the usernames of the editors who will be jury members.
  • Please push back the grant start date - July 16 - by roughly two weeks to allow time for the grant review process and following process.
  • Are you a member of Wikimedia Community User Group Botswana or requesting this grant on behalf of any user group? Have you considered collaborating with any local user group? Since the scope of this project is small, have you considered joining the international contest?
  • Could you please link the Tswana Wikipedia in the probox?
  • Is this project being organized only for the students of the Maun Technical College or this is also for other contributors editing on Tswana Wikipedia?
  • You have mentioned that you would let people know about the contest via email. Do you have email addresses of all potential participants?
  • For the WPWP local contests the maximum prize budget we allow is 500 USD. Please reduce the prize budget to 500 USD.

Looking forward to your response! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:35, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), No i am organising an online meeting, that is why i mentioned that there is good internet in the area. My main target will be student and other people that may be interested in contributing. I have e-mail addresses of potential contributors. I am rquesting ths grant on behalf of the community trying to build up or boost up the http://tn.wikipedia.org

From the site i shared, you can easily tell that the Wikipedia i want to work on is in-active, it only has 700 articles in it, i have been to seminars and i can lead this, allow me to.

Additional comments from WMF[edit]

Hello Naomi Moeng, thanks for responding to some of my questions. Some of the questions are still unanswered, that's why I'm adding them here with more questions.

  • Your experience on the Wikimedia projects is very limited. According to this page, you only have 19 edits on English Wikipedia and no edits on Tswana Wikipedia. Almost all edits are made in the galleries and do not prove that you have enough experience working on Wikimedia projects. Do you have other team members who have substantial contributions to the Wikimedia projects, particularly to Tswana Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons? Please add their usernames to the proposal page. We cannot move forward with this request until we are not sure that there are people in the organizing team who have experience working on Wikimedia projects and can support you during the event.

--> Ans= Hello DSaroyan (WMF) , i have requested anther leader to help me out with my proposals to be a success.

  • Please also add the usernames of the editors who will be jury members, otherwise clarify who will be selected as jury members?
  • You have mentioned that you had been in seminars and can lead this event. Could you please provide more information about these seminars?

--> Ans= Hello DSaroyan (WMF) , I attended the girls in ICT event in 2017 and the graduate edit-a-thorn program.

  • Are you a member of Wikimedia Community User Group Botswana or requesting this grant on behalf of any user group? Have you considered collaborating with any local user group? Since the scope of this project is small, have you considered joining the international contest?

--> Ans= Hello DSaroyan (WMF) , Yes i am a member of the group, but i wish to start the Tswana related content user group in due course.

  • You have mentioned that you have email addresses of the potential contributors and that this project is also "for other people that may be interested in contributing". Could you please elaborate on how you will reach out to these people?

--> Ans= Hello DSaroyan (WMF) , I will send a group email. I kindly ask you to address all questions. Looking forward to your response! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, my first comment applies to this grant request as well. We'll hold off reviewing that proposal until we are sure that there are experienced Wikimedians supporting the project. Best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:36, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), i sorry for late response, i had a talk with one of the community project organisers via email by the name Mompati!! Let me ping him so that he supports us in both proposals. @User:Mompati Dikunwane (Help).

Thank you. c(talk) 14:39, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Naomi Moeng , as discussed via mail, i am proud to say that i will be there to support your work (organising and all), please feel free to add my name at the organisers.

Regards Mompati Dikunwane (talk) 17:55, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again Naomi Moeng, heard you mentioned you want to start a group that focuses on the Tswana content uploads and article writing, have you considered reaching out the Affilliations committe User group application criteria?, that could help and i am happy to see the effort you re trying to put to bring up the local language to the public domain using Wikipedia tools.

Addendum

Just to mention that the WPWP International Organizing Team has not been contacted about this. Regards. T CellsTalk 21:13, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Approved[edit]

Hello Naomi Moeng, considering the fact that you now have experienced editors who will be supporting you during your event, I am happy to approve your Rapid Grant request.

Dear Mompati Dikunwane, thank you so much for accepting Naomi's offer and expressing willingness to support them!

Dear T Cells, thank you for notifying me about this. In fact, I have checked the contest page to see if the community had coordinated this local contest with you. Now, when this grant has been approved, I'd highly recommend Naomi Moeng to contact you and coordinate his work with the international team, even when the international contest has different dates.

Thank you all! DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:35, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
