Grants talk:Project/Rapid/marielavzla/Offline Internet Resources for Rural Schools in Peru
Add topicHistory of application
[edit]This grant application was first made 22 November 2017 at Grants:TPS/marielavzla/Offline Internet Resources for Rural Schools in Peru. On 30 November the WMF staff review began. On 12 January that review ended with a recommendation to complete the "rapid" form instead of the "travel" form. I apologize for the confusion; the "travel" application says, ":Travel & Participation Support funds volunteers contributing to Wikimedia projects to travel to and participate in primarily non-Wikimedia events. Travel to represent Wikimedia at a non-movement event: Present a talk, Organize a workshop", which is all accurate for this project. I appreciate whatever help WMF staff can offer to help me complete the correct form.
Thanks @Mjohnson (WMF): for your assistance at the travel grants page. @WJifar (WMF): I appreciate whatever evaluation and feedback that you can provide here. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:44, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Blue Rasberry , thank you for clarifying the nature of your confusion. TPS was created to allow Wikimedians with a particular expertise to attend conferences with other people who share that expertise. For example, a physics professor who is also a Wikimedian volunteer might attend a conference for physics researchers and present about how Wikimedia projects apply in that context. We focus on sending Wikimedian volunteers to participate in independently planned large group events open to the public, like conferences. A serial campaign like the one described in this proposal, focused on touring schools and conducting targeted outreach and training is a much more complex, project-style endeavor than TPS is intended to include. Please let me know if this is still unclear, or whether this provides the context you are looking for. Thank you! --Marti (WMF) (talk) 19:45, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Mjohnson (WMF): Thanks, that is fine for this. I posted some reflections on the general application process at Grants_talk:Start#How_does_the_WMF_grants_team_feel_about_saying_"no"?. I am satisfied with everything about this grant. Let's see what happens next for this one! I hope for a speedy evaluation and any response is useful. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:04, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Blue Rasberry . WJifar (WMF) and I will prioritize reviewing this tomorrow. Best, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:58, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- @AWang (WMF) and WJifar (WMF): Can you confirm that the review is proceeding? Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:57, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Approval
[edit]Hello Blue Rasberry , thank you for organizing these series of events to bring offline internet resources to rural schools in Peru. I apologize for the delay in response as we return from US holidays and offsite meetings. I am approving your rapid grant request. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 14:58, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
- Great, thanks. The application process has been a learning process for me and ~5 others directly involved. As we continue to advance the project we will pass on what we learned to others. I appreciate your review and attention. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:31, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
