Hello Brooks patty and Cshanesimpson,

Thank you for this submission. The committee's feedback is as follows:

  • It's great that you were able to demonstrate live editing of Wikipedia during your session. In reviewing the history of the articled you linked to, it appears that Brooks patty is the only contributor, along with an admin addressing copyright and formatting issues. You mentioned in your initial request that you planned this as a hands-on session in which participants would contribute content. Do you have any feedback on how successful this was?
  • We really appreciate that you were able to put the Wiki Ed Foundation in contact with 78 participants from this event. Thank you for forging that connection. That said, we think it's important that you also follow up with those participants directly to strengthen the tie and remind them about any key points from your presentation that might facilitate their willingness to take the next step. In our experience, follow-up outreach is very important to creating impact from single-instance presentations.
  • As you know from my comments in the approval of your request, an outcome is required to meet the requirements for your report. This should be something that is created during or after the event because of your participation, such as a learning pattern to teach others something you've learned at the event, a link to something new that was co-created by you and your fellow participants at the event, or a blog post you wrote to share your experience with others after the event. Though revisions to the APS Wikipedia Initiative article would meet this requirement, we note that no such revisions have been made. At this time, the revision history shows the last edit was made on March 8. Before we can approve this report, we do need a link to an outcome. You may want to consider writing a blog post to share about your experience, or perhaps you might like to create or add to a learning pattern that would support your participants that you could send out with your follow-up outreach to participants.

Hello Marti (WMF),

We greatly appreciate the feedback from you and your team! I wanted to acknowledge and begin to address some of your comments, as many of these items are in-progress:

  • We've been working closely with a team of novice Wikipedia editors to help mentor them on proper editing techniques, prior to substantial editing on Wikipedia articles. These editors have been successful (thus far) in beginning to add/revise some of the content on the Society for the Teaching of Psychology article. This mentorship will continue in the upcoming weeks to ensure that these new editors feel confident taking on additional Wikipedia articles, particularly in the field of psychology.
  • Finally, the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Psychology page is also being updated, as this project page has been severely neglected for some time and needs general revisions throughout the text. We hope to get this page linked (internally and externally) with the current resources available for Wikipedians with interest and expertise in the field of psychological science.

We will provide more information soon, but I wanted to keep you updated on where we are and where we are headed in the next few weeks.

Thanks for providing the follow-up information above. We're glad to hear that you're moving forward and we'll looking forward to hearing more about your progress.

At this point, we are not ready to approve your report because it's not clear to us that the articles you've submitted meet the outcome requirement. It's not clear to us how the editing done on the articles you linked to are tied to your participation in the event. Could you help us understand this better?

Remember that you can complete the outcome requirement for your report by creating or improving a learning pattern that would benefit the audience you are seeking to support Alternatively, you could write a blog post. Since you have contact information for 78 participants, you could potentially provide the link to your Learning Pattern or blog post to that audience.

For your reference, here is a particularly strong example of outcome reporting in a TPS report:

Hello Marti (WMF),

Thank you for the feedback. We have been in communication with the Wiki Education Foundation about preparing blog entries about (1) teaching psychology with Wikipedia and assessing its impact on students and (2) promoting the PSYCH+Feminism initiative as part of Wikipedia's Year of Science. I will follow up again today to get a timeline for submitting our first entry to their blog: https://wikiedu.org/blog/ Both of these blog entries will address challenges that instructors new to Wikipedia are likely to face in the classroom and online, and will build on the lessons of our grant-supported workshop.

With regards to the APS Wikipedia Initiative, the article on the "Dos and don'ts of Wikipedia Editing" that we prepared for them is now available for download on the APS Wikipedia website (top right): http://www.psychologicalscience.org/index.php/members/aps-wikipedia-initiative We are continuing to work closely with the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology to promote Wikipedia editing in undergraduate psychology classes. To that end, we have been mentoring a group of graduate student instructors in how to edit Wikipedia articles and teach with Wikipedia. The graduate students have done an excellent job of expanding the stub article on Society for the Teaching of Psychology that we launched at the APS-STP Teaching Institute workshop.

Thanks for your follow-up! It's exciting to hear how you're providing support to APS and the Society for the Teaching of Psychology to deepen future collaboration with the Wikimedia movement. Your "Dos and dont's" article certainly meets the outcome requirement for this report--and in a way that promises to have exceptional impact! Thanks for this great contribution.
