Question about your participation[edit]

Dear Psubhashish:

Thank you for this request!

Have you applied to, or been approved to, lead any talks, workshops, or other sessions at the conference?

Thank you, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 17:17, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Winifred for moving the request to the right place. I would be participating in the talks and workshops. I also have planned to conduct Wikipedia meetups with Wikimedians and Mediawiki contributors to discuss about various tools especially analysis and visualization tools and tools for creating support systems for Editor retention. --Subhashish Panigrahi (talk) 17:48, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the quick response! Are you able to provide any more details about the meetups you are planning to organize? For example, when do you expect to host these meetups and how many people do you expect will attend each meetup? Will the conference organizers be providing a venue for the meetups or advertising them in the conference program? Thank you, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 18:18, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Winifred, I need to know the participants first to host these meetups which I am afraid I could tell at this moment. I would socialize and get to meet more contributors there itself and discuss which will make them happening. As this is going to be an unconference space would not be an issue. To be in a safer side I am going to write to the event organizers and find a place. Thanks again. --Subhashish Panigrahi (talk) 18:33, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK! Thank you for that information. We hope to have an update for you soon. Best regards, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 19:11, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Winifred. I look forward to hearing from you. --Subhashish Panigrahi (talk) 20:17, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request not funded[edit]

Dear Psubhashish:

Thank you for this thoughtful request.

This seems like a worthwhile event for you, and we thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia projects; however, the committee has decided not to fund this request based on the following decision-making criteria, which are explained on the Travel and Participation Support page.

  1. Level of participation: We realize that you may be planning some informal meetups after the event, but that you will not be able to finalize your plans for these meetups before the event. We also realize that you will be engaging in conference sessions and workshops as a participant. However, you are not leading any formal workshops or sessions about Wikimedia topics as part of the approved conference program, or otherwise taking on a leadership role as a Wikimedian at the conference.
  2. Investment: Most requests to the Travel and Participation Support Program are less than US$1,500 and cover 1 to 5 days of participation. At more than US$3,000, this is an expensive request with respect to the proposed outcomes. Very strong mission alignment and an active and clear plan for participation in the event with direct and tangible results on a Wikimedia project would be needed to fund your participation at this level.

We understand this news may be disappointing, but we encourage you to submit requests for your participation in future events that may be better aligned with the Travel and Participation Support Criteria for Decision.

Best regards, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 18:25, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Winifred, this is not a good news. As it is a Python and non-Wikimedia project related event I am planning all of the Wikimedia related activities as additional events. In no way I can formally host Wikimedia related events in PyCon. Secondly as the duration is for 9 days the expenses are little high. However I could fund my accommodation. Will that be possible to reconsider for my request only for travel (Air and local) as this is an opportunity to connect with the global Python community and bring more support to Indic language projects? Thanks! --Subhashish Panigrahi (talk) 05:15, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Psubhashish: Thank you for this suggestion. The committee has considered this suggestions and has still decided not to fund this this request. While the cost of the request without accommodation is more reasonable and we appreciate that, your level of participation in this event is still not sufficient for funding. There is no formal Wikimedia-related participation in this conference by you scheduled, and details about the informal Wikimedia-related events you are planning are not finalized or are not available. We thank you again for your contributions, and also encourage you to submit another request in the future that may be a better match for funding. PyCon India?[edit]

Hi! It would be great if you could continue your Wikimedia-related teaching work; perhaps you could submit a talk to PyCon India or a similar event? If your talk gets accepted then you could ask for a TPS grant to help you attend it! Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 18:33, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Sumana for suggesting about PyCon India., I will definitely try to attend PyCon and talk about such community building practices. --Subhashish Panigrahi (talk) 16:59, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
