This proposal has been approved. The Board of Trustees and language committee have deemed that there is sufficient grounds and community to create the new language project.
The closing committee member provided the following comment:
Support. Yes, I believe that we need an Greek version of Wikinews. In addition, there is also a large number of Greek users that can maintain the project.--Consta 12:30, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Support. Wikinews gonna be supported from many greek users, making a wonderful project. --K sal 15 12:27, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Support. Many Greek internet authors in general would be attracted to a wiki news project, beside strictly wikipedia users.--Dimorsitanos 21:59, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Support. Τhere was once a "plan" (this one) to have Greece-themed news incorporated in the English Wikinews but it failed very quickly. Crazymadlover's proposal about the opening of a fully independent Βικινέα project seems to be a much better idea, since there certainly exist many Greeks who would like to read free and editable news (especially local news) articles in their native language -- and I am one of them, of course. I have just created the main page of this project and I'll be glad to take care of the purely technical aspects of it, but regarding its content we definitely need a couple of dedicated contributors to get it really started. We could even "recruit" experienced and interested users from the already existing el-projects. Note: Wikinews is the only Wikimedia project so far without a Modern Greek equivalent. --Omnipaedista 05:39, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes it is. The langcom is not going to accept language without a well-functioning test project. --OosWesThoesBes 04:27, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You don't understand. these section of supporting and opposition are refering to the Requisites for eligibility (if it has ISO 639-3, if it is sufficiently unique, etc), if the project is benefitial, etc. --Crazymadlover.
I've already set up three projects so I know where I'm talking about. ISO code etc are initial requisites. Please also see [1] Criteria for final approval: develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval. --OosWesThoesBes 04:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well Ooswesthoesbes what I think is that you shouldn't place this argument yet. This proposal has been created less than a month before. Give the project some time. I have set up two projects and I know that this a very important issue but I also know that there hasn't been any proposal that was judged for inactivity with two weeks "life". Please wait for a couple of months and then you have every right to say that we are inactive if we still have 30 edits. In conclusion I think the first month was very successful three people made over 10 edits.--ZaDiak 13:47, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I know and I'll surely change my vote when it becomes active :) --OosWesThoesBes 17:50, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
