The closing committee member provided the following comment:
The difference between Brazilian and European Portuguese are not big enough to justify a split of the project. Further, the edition was proposed because of a content dispute, which obviously is not a reason to create a new Wikipedia. Jon Harald Søby 13:54, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Portuguese Wiki is (at least for me) an unacceptable medium in which I cannot freely write and edit! The Brazilians aggressively dominate the Wiki and have imposed their standards on european portuguese speakers. I believe it is time for each to go his way so that both sides are free to write the way they consider to be most correct. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by126.96.36.199 (talk • contribs) .
Unnecessary. We have exactly the same problem with transatlantic bullies on the English wikipedia (it should be wikipaedia!). The best you can do is write articles on Portuguese/European topics in European Portuguese, Brazilian/American topics in Brazilian Portuguese and write other articles in the form of Portuguese that was used first. If the Brazilian editors are truly unreasonable, you should start a "Guerrilla European Portuguese" movement! LeighvsOptimvsMaximvs 13:28, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Against. This issue was not even discussed (lately, or by this user) in the Portuguese language Wikipedia. This type of request is not new, similar ones have been rejected. Ad nauseam is what comes to my mind. PatríciaR 18:04, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Against We already have Portuguese Wikipedia. --Yes0song 11:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]
