Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Guianan Creole

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
submitted verification final decision

This proposal has been approved.
The Board of Trustees and language committee have deemed that there is sufficient grounds and community to create the new language project.

A committee member provided the following comment:

  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code gcr (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Guianan Creole Language name in English
Language name Kriyòl Gwiyannen Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q1363072 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality no indication Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.

Settings
Project name Wikipédja "Wikipedia" in your language
Project namespace Artik usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace Diskisyon Wikipédja "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads yes Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-gcr.svg This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone America/Cayenne UTC-3:00 "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces "Paj", "Paj di Diskisyon", "Endèks", "Dikisyon Endèks" For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Fallback language: fr Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

Location Spoken : French Guiana, a region in France.

As a Guianan, I think it would be interesting to have the "Guianan Creole" as a language on Wikipedia !

It is true that French Guiana has for main language the French because it remains a French overseas department but the Guianan Creole is a language that evolves over time thanks to the languages of neighboring countries and also thanks to its cultural diversity, Especially as more than twenty languages are spoken which allows the language to evolve over time !

(Ps : Help me realize one of my biggest dreams).

@PouLagwiyann: you might be interested in Les Partenaires de la France. FYI, I added an .ogg file to the Guianan Creole article, hope that helps you in trying to get more viewers (and listeners). BTW, dreams are the soul of the mind... Lotje (talk) 08:12, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thank you Lotje, I really hope it will help me ! PouLagwiyann (Talk)

@PouLagwiyann: you are more then welcome! Lotje (talk) 15:30, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you put namespaces and a fallback language into the table. It seems like these namespace names are the translations of the namespaces given as examples in the 3rd column? These are only necessary for Wikisource, not Wikipedia. Also, to request a fallback language for the interface, you need to so on on translatewiki:Support. --MF-W 15:40, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MF-W:, I have added the portal of the language on translatewiki.net, but I still can't translate the 762 core most-used Wikimedia messages, help me please I don't know what to do ?! • PouLagwiyann (Talk) 16:33, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You first need to request enabling it on translatewiki:Support. --MF-W 17:40, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@MF-W:, I ask in the translatewiki:Support but nobody wants to answer me ! PouLagwiyann (Talk) 15:35, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@PouLagwiyann: Just to let you know that your language request is now under Approval ongoing, however, the reason why this isn't marked approved right now is due to lack of enough linguistic verifications, do you have any ideas that how to contact linguistics that investigated Guianan Creole language? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:36, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Liuxinyu970226: Oh ok, but what should I give you, a number, an e-mail or the Facebook link of a linguist ??? PouLagwiyann (Talk) 18:15, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
