CheckUser on Slovak Wikipedia

sk:Redaktor:Liso requests by e-mail to Paginazero, Romihaitza checkuser rights on sk.wikipedia:

for the following users

Polls on sk.wiki close on January 15th, 2006.

Thank you. Paginazero 17:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Paginazero, I think this should be mentioned after the vote finishes. It is not right for the candidates because in 3 days some users may vote against and the users could be not supported anymore (as precedence see the 10th "steward" in 2006 elections) -Romihaitza 21:02, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
That's why I reported the closing date of the votes. No action must be taken before. --Paginazero 07:32, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
As Slovakia is already in January 16, 2006, I have granted these three users checkuser status. -Romihaitza 23:02, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Portuguese Wikipedia

According to this voting, we at pt: decided to request CheckUser, and that it would be in a per-bureaucrat attribution. This means that when the bureaucrat ceases his/her term, access to CheckUser shall be ceased as well. I think it would be easier to flag +checkuser the whole bureaucrat group, if that is possible, instead of giving/taking the flag individually. That's up to you. I'm requesting, accordingly and for now, CheckUser rights for:

All of these are bureaucrats at pt:. Best regards, Nuno Tavares 00:53, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Done. — Dan | Talk 05:34, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

However, this is not the rule under which attribution of checkuser rights was supposed to work. Normally, checkusers should be individually approved by the community. I suppose that since these are all three new bureaucrats, the community agrees on them. But there is no certainty for older bureaucrats. Who are they ? Please, do not make more pt bureaucrats checkusers unless there is nominative support for now. There will be no common flag for bureaucrat+checkuser, because these are two differents jobs. If Pt wants to suggest only bureaucrats for checkuser access, this is totally all right, but imho, each user should be approved. Not all of them as a group. Anthere

According to the CheckUser Policy we cannot grant users checkuser privileges until they get at least 25 votes in the poll. According to the same policy, the projects which don't have enought users, won't get checkusers. -Romihaitza 13:44, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
The vote has also only been up for four days. It should last a while longer. Jon Harald Søby 11:29, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
We summarize what Checuser is on voting page, but i can translate CheckUser_Policy to Turkish. There is over 10.000 users, i announce the request on Village Pump i hope they will vote. Is there a limitation about time--Ugur Basak 12:52, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
No, but four days is too little. In my opinion, it should be up for at least two weeks, for a representative number of users to state their opinions. Jon Harald Søby 16:43, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I am a sysop on Marathi wikipedia. i would like to support mr:user:अभय नातू as administrator as he is very active user on marathi wikipedia and we need an active administrator working in day time in Western Hemisphere. There are not many people active in Marathi community to go for community approval.

Hi,I would like to support mr:user:अभय नातू as administrator being seen doing gramaticaly good and impartial editing.

I would apreciate to know whether,is this the place to vote ? Secondly, also would apreciate ,if Marathi language Wikipedia admins to have clearly linked page in Marathi language which specifies procedures of application for becoming an admin and also where to put request for stopping of an administrator ship if in an unfortunate curcumstances required?

At the start of this page it is indicated that you should get community approval before placing the request here. So a better place for the voting is for example the administrators page at the local project, with an announcement at the village pump. --Ascánder 11:34, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Well this project is not closed and has been in existence for over a year. If the project should be closed it should have been done a long time ago, and not now. It is not fair to leave a project open and have people give up their free time only to see the whole thing deleted. Unless there are objections to Flcelloguy being made a admin then I see no reason why access should not be granted.

Hello, I would like to request sysop access on nah.wikt, because I am about to translate the interface and would also like to replace the english interface with a spanish one for the parts I am not able to translate (a spanish interface would be more likely to be understandable by native speakers). My question here is also: Would it be possible to import the spanish interface or has this to be done by hand?. Also I am regulary online there and cleaning it from spam.

Thanks a lot in advance, greetings --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 10:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Please follow the procedure and request here after gaining community consensus. I know you have almost no community (12 registered users) but I see some active in Recent changes. So we should wait.
For importing you can get import permission temporary to try to import the XML file, or if you have no changes from eswiki you can ask a developer to copy their Language file to your wiki --Romihaitza 11:11, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your answers. It is ok for me to wait, just let me know when it is done.
I will ask a developer for copying then, and then I can revert the MediaWiki messages that had already been translated. Greetings --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 11:18, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
May I ask kindly why you suggest first to wait a while and then one day later you move this request without an explaination to the archive? Many thanks in advance, greetings --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 22:48, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
I am granting temporary sysop, import access so you can get the interface translation going. For it to be permanent, the community (which seems to be non-existant) should express their opinion. Jon Harald Søby 23:05, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

This is confusing. Thanks JHS, actually I already were temp sysop, I used this to delete spam and to translate a bit of the interface [5] [6], but I asked for permanent adminship now (at least until a community there has established). If you don't want me to be admin there I have no problem with that, just an explaination would be nice, thanks.
Argh, and please I don't want that you two now have a problem with each other :(
I suggest to remove the import flag (since I wont need it) and the sysop status until there is consensus. Thanks --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 01:31, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

I'd say that if the community is so small that not even one person cares voting on the bureaucrat, then, there is no urgent need for a bureaucrat ;-) Anthere
seeing the user list i also think it is too early for a bureaucrat-status, but let me know if any other kind of help is needed, ok? oscar 23:25, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
Oscar, it's not so important for now. Currently there are no vandals or lots of users who want sys-op status etc. I made this request as a procedure. Thanks for your replies(and also Anther's). We can remove this request or it can stay for a while. It doesn't so important for now.--Ugur Basak 23:39, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Czech Wikisource - not granted

I have just applied for the Czech domain of Wikisource. See here

  • The Czech Wikisource has been voting on this here.
  • The Czech Wikipedia has also voted (and is still votin since 5 days) who should be the admin bureaucrat on the new cs.wikisource. I have applied these rights, se voting on the Czech Wikipedia here.

I am in cs:wiki since May 2004, admin there since November 2004; about 6000 edits there; also participating in de:wiki; admin in wikisource.org with about 300 edits. In all projets my name is -jkb-. -jkb- 16:29, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Please follow procedure. You should apply here after the vote is finished and the project is created. --Romihaitza 16:35, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Today, in the afternoon, I requested for a status as admin bureaucrat on a Czech domain o Wikisource, where I put a request to create it some minutes ago. This request here was archived by Romihaitza some short time later. I protest against this as follows:

  1. on the page Wikisource:Language domain requests on the Wikisource there is a clear advice,
For all people requested rights on new wikis, please create an account on these wikis and post a message on Meta : Requests_for_permissions#Admin_for_Wikisource. Thanks. Yann 19:50, 25 August 2005 (UTC) (not saying when to do so)
  2. if somebody like me does do a fault, so please tell me this on my page either here or at wikisource org (they are known)
  3. apart from this, on my page in cs:wiki I saw a mesage from Romihaitza, telling there, that I did a fault
  4. first, I do not can communicate with somebody on a rumanian wiki
  5. and second and very important: if this user gives me this notice on the Czech wikipediea, so it means, that all the people, having voted for me, now see, I have made a fault, and this is slightly bad for me, isnt it?

So, I apply once more for the status of bureaucrat on the czech wikisource, a ask somebody to restore my application, and I ask somebody to go to the czech talk page of mine and to state, that everytihing is ok - the page is here: cs:Wikipedista diskuse:-jkb- - thx, -jkb- 18:22, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, if you read at the start of this page, it's said: Please add the request here after the community approval. So if you are looking for community approval now, there is nothing we can do with your request for at least a week. It would be a good idea to correct information at the local page so that others don't make the same mistake. --Ascánder 18:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

OK. I read the page in wikisource.org, and not here. Secondly, what does it mean the voting (i.e. community approval) is over? Sure, some five days ago I asked the community in the czech wikipedia to tell me, if there is this wish. They voted for it. But they are still voting, all with yes, why to stop it? OK, I stop the votes now, but I see it like a little nonsence. So, after some minutes, see there and it will be stopped. By the way, what do you mean by "to correct information at the local page so that others don't make the same mistake"?? -Anyway, thx for your answer very much. -jkb- 19:00, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

  • According to the fact that the project is not yet created and can take long time until it will be (you applied for it just today!). For example see other requests see very old requests in that list which were not yet created even if the language project itself it is supported by contributors. -Romihaitza 19:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
  • See my change here because I see it like a misunderstanding: [9] -Romihaitza 19:49, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
  • I also think that due to new language subdomain creation policy at Wikisource you should not stop the vote. You need as many supporters as you can for the subdomain to be created. -Romihaitza 19:53, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

OK, I think as well it was a misunderstanding, and I thank Romihaitza for his explanations. I also have seen the changes of the text on Wikisource. In the meantime i stopped my STOP with voting on the Czech wiki, so that I think, my apply for the domain will get some more votes in next days. Thx to all, -jkb- 21:06, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

It is very symptomatic, since -jkb- doesn't know almost no rules. -- V. Z. 12:40, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Persian Wikisource

I request bureaucrat access on fa.wikisource.org

Thank you. --Kaveh 23:56, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

hi kaveh, could an english translation please be added to the local page? thx oscar 09:51, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Why? This is rather unorthodox. Kaveh 08:15, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Incidentally, the local request page is a non-issue and a mere formality since this a new project. My request is of considerable urgency since many of the messages need to be translated and the css and js files fine tuned. In addition the procedure for creation of a new Wikisource calls for availability of a bureaucrat. Kaveh 08:36, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
If none of stewards can read this page, none of us can furfill the request because we don't know what kind of vote was there. -Romihaitza 13:35, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
There hasn't been one, nor is a vote practical given the age and size of the project. Kaveh 14:27, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
User granted because the lack of community. Please have a voting proces after the community will be populated. -Romihaitza 16:41, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Bureaucrats for Wikibooks

Hungarian Wikibooks

I respected for adminship in Hungarian Wikibooks. I'm an admin there, but I need help doing my work (translating MediaWiki environment and help system) in the form of some new admins, and I need to be a buerocrat to acclaim them (I strongly would like to personally acclaim my two applicants). Details: here. I have support, no opposition (in fact, there are only 5-6 activer users in huwikibooks yet). Thanx: Gubbubu 09:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I can't find your name here -> hu:Project:Jelentkezés adminisztrátornak. --Snowdog 13:55, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I am requesting Bureaucrat status for b:User:Derbeth who has won widespread support to become a Bureaucrat on English Wikibooks. He has done a simply outstanding job as an administrator, and we are simply seeking a few more bureaucrats to help out in this growing project.

Thank you for any assistance in this matter. --Roberth 14:42, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Dear Lusheeta, I think this is a misunderstanding.
You should put the request on your japanese page, but in english language so that we can read it there.
We will go to the japanese Wikipedia, check what is written there (in english), and do what you request there.
Hope, this helps ;-) Fantasy 20:16, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

THIS IS URGENT! SH Wikipedia is under extreme vandalism! sh:User:Јованвб supporting this awful vandalism. He is supporting vandal sh:User:Millica! He is curently sysop unfortunately. Please remove him this status instant for goodwill of all Wikipedia! Thank you. --Pokrajac 18:55, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

  • I am totally against this. Jovanvb has shown nothing but good will and even though he did not respond at so called vandalism, he didn't vandalise anything thus making him not guilty. --Dungodung 18:58, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Jovanvb has shown nothing but good will. Hahaha. Good will is supporting vandalism!??? Oh my God! --Pokrajac 19:18, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Please, again, can anybody do something and protect all Wikimedia from this vandals!? --Pokrajac 19:20, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

If it's for the good cause, then it's OK. Face it - Serbocroatian has been extinct for AT LEAST 10 years! Jovanvb, myself and few others were supporting the idea User:Millica was trying to convey, but you cut off our freedom of choice and opinion. Now that's what I call vandalism. You should be banned from editing sh: because of the abuse of your priviledges! --Dungodung 19:23, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
This is political oppinion. Because of that he is supporting vandalism!? This is catastrophic! --Pokrajac 19:25, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
I think that you were taught that tollerance means respecting other people's opinions and calling our opinions "catastrophic" is pure disrespect and goes against everything you believe in. Don't let me remind you of your own user page where you state so. --Dungodung 19:28, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
You and some others are supporting extreme vandal - Millica! How you can be on Meta anyway!? --Pokrajac 19:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Why can't we be here? Is it forbidden for us? Do we need your permission? Hah, such lame excuses you make. You should be ashamed of yourself for being so stubborn. :p --Dungodung 19:32, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Removal from sysop status should be a collective decision on your project. You should create a voting page there and have editors give their opinion. Greetings Anthere 19:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Pokrajac is afraid to do that because he knows he'll lose. That's why he blocked us all without ANY support. That's abuse, right? --Dungodung 19:34, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
You have not be there. I was blocked vandals. Jovan bocked me, and I cant do edits on sh Wikipedia. :) --Pokrajac 19:37, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
What difference does it make? You unblocked yourself and besides, you blocked him first, so that doesn't change a thing. --Dungodung 19:40, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Pokrajac is sadly working against community consensus here. His intentions aren't bad, but he has shown himself to be unable to cooperate and to accept a clearly expressed consensus. Accusing innocent people of supporting vandalism is a tactic that should be avoided. Vandalism works against the whole community. Here, Јованвб (Jovanvb) is actually expressing the wish of the community, not going against it. Users who ordinarily hold a range of differing opinions on various issues have come to an agreement here, and Pokrajac is actually the only one opposed to it. Unfortunately, his position as a bureaucrat gives him the ability to ignore the consensus, but punishing people for simply expressing their opinions is, in my opinion, a very grave offence against the unwritten Wikipedia code. --Elephantus 19:51, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
You dont have even 50 edits! Everyone from street can vote. --Pokrajac 20:40, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
My bot account there has 186 edits (and I was accessing that account when I made edits)! --Dungodung 20:41, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Many of the articles I contributed to extensively or wrote completely were copied verbatim to this Wikipedia, thus creating an internal fork. So I consider myself to have a say in this matter, and not a small one. --Elephantus 20:42, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Exactly! When I followed Pokrajac's reverting, I noticed that some of articles I wrote (from sr:) were being there. There is no reason whatsoever for the sole existence of the project if it mirrors work made by 3 other wikipedia wikipedians. This is an outrage and something like this has to be stopped before it spreads anymore. --Dungodung 20:46, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
And let me remind you that most of the voters weren't just some people from the streets. They were respected contributors and sysops from other projects. --Dungodung 20:46, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but you are vandal supporter, and you are blocked. --Pokrajac 20:46, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but you are the one that's doing vandalism, so you SHOULD be blocked. --Dungodung 20:59, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm just reverting vandalism which you are supporting.:)))))) --Pokrajac 21:01, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Quit stating things we have already talked about, so I won't dignify your statement with a reply. Your impertinence is driving everyone crazy. --Dungodung 21:04, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
You are supporting vandalism and that is a true fact. Every word here is proving that. So quit proving that. I revrted last vandalised article. --Pokrajac 21:46, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm supporting the truth and my beliefs don't have anything to do with vandalism. I see we're going in circles, because I won't give up and you're stubburn with your convictions. Maybe we should really lock the whole project until we come to an agreement. --Dungodung 22:00, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

This users was blocked only becouse they are voting on wikipedia. They didnt make any vandalism. If pokrajac think that this is vandalism this isn't a place for him --Jovanvb 22:18, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Here is what happened: A vandal (User:Milica), blanked a bunch of articles, and got nominated for temp admin (we still don't have sysop granting procedure in place). A bunch of people expressed their support, although they had none or close to none contributions. Pokrajac probably blocked them just to stop possible sock puppets. Jovanvb unblocked himself, without discussion. --Dcabrilo

Tell you what people, we'll start a straw poll for a week whether or not we should close this wiki. For this time, I ask everyone (mainly Jovanvb and Pokrajac) to stop blocking people and reverting anything on sh.wikipedia. Here's a link to the vote - [15]. Datrio 22:52, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

With all due respect Datrio, you CANNOT start a poll just like that. People are working on that wiki, and few POV pushers can now move to close it?--Dcabrilo

I desysopped Node_ue on http://mo.wikipedia.org because he blocked another user (Pavel) because of he disagreement over the ongoing dispute about the Modavian Wikipedia. Beside that, Node_ue doesn't speak the language and was only "elected" with two votes in favour and one against him. Yann 19:12, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Where did you get these ideas? Clearly, you were biased against me from the start -- you called me a troll on your own talkpage! I'm not 100% sure, but I'm guessing that it's not exactly orthodox to remove or give permissions to a user with whom you have a history of less-than-friendly relations.
Now, as I explained to you, I did not block Pavel because of the ongoing dispute!!!! I blocked him for 3 days because he was moving dozens of pages in rapid succession and replacing their entire contents, without discussing it first! How do you know I don't speak the language? I may not speak it perfectly, but I certainly speak it better than you -- I'm pretty sure you don't know it.
Also, see Romihaitza's comments re:Anittas' vote against me. --Node ue 20:29, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
How dare you to speak like that node? Yann had all the right to desysoped you. I'm wonder why he didn't even blocked you indefinitely for such a bad approach of you. Fratele lui Bonaparte, il cunosti? 20:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
I think this is not the right place to fight. -Romihaitza 21:27, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Then what is the right place to challenge Yann's action? So far, only two stewards have taken action with regards to the Moldovan Wikipedia. You, Romihaitza, are one of them. But I don't think it's fair to expect you to be able to maintain neutrality in this case, seeing as you are Romanian and have yourself participated in this conflict. You made Bogdangiusca a sysop, which I think is not OK: Anthère suggested we wait a while first, also, I do not think permissions should be granted on mo.wiki by you, seeing as you are yourself deeply involved in the conflict.
The other steward is Yann. Yann has never been able to maintain neutrality with regard to me, he called me a troll on his own talkpage a few months ago, and seeing that comment I think it indicates a preëxisting bias against me on his part. I do not think he should be allowed to modify my permissions on any project.
Other than these two people, it seems other stewards have only been involved a little bit, with comments but not actions (Datrio and Anthere). I think it is more proper for issues with mo.wiki to be fixed by people who have not shown prior biases against particular users involved in the conflict, and who are themselves not involved in the conflict. It seems only reasonable to me that the matter be evaluated by disinterested parties -- Anthere, Angela, Jon Harold Soby, Datrio, etc. -- rather than people who have preëxisting personal or national biases -- Yann, who is biased against me, and Romihaitza, who is biased in favour of a Romanian position on the issue and in favour of Bogdangiusca.
That is not to say that these people should not be stewards -- I think both are good people and both deserve to be stewards. What I am saying is that it gives off a strong appearance of impropriety when stewards with previous attachments to the conflict or to users involved in the conflict take actions of this sort, and that it is more proper and logical for other stewards to handle it. --Node ue 04:55, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, seeing edits like this I'd have to agree with Pavel. Not really with the desysopping, though, this case should be looked more closely at. Node ue, could you comment on, for example, the edit I provided? Datrio 22:58, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Datrio, the explanation for that is that his article was 100% identical to the article at the Romanian Wikipedia. It was agreed a long time ago not to have articles in the Latin script at mo.wiki because it would duplicate content from ro.wiki; recently I decided to allow it because it seemed to have lost its popularity. However, in this case, the copy was 100% verbatim -- the interwikis were the same, etc. Also, Pavel did such things with no regard for differences in wikisyntax between rowiki and mowiki, resulting in many problems (mostly with images). I'm not sure why my edit was not constructive (the text I wrote means "see this article at the romanian wikipedia"). --Node ue 04:46, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
  • As I know, some time ago was decided in a voting poll at mowiki that mowiki will be the Romanian (Moldavian) version of Wikipedia in cyrillic alphabet. The contributors for latin script had to go - according to that policy to rowiki. As far as I know, the policy is still official because nobody changed it. -Romihaitza 14:21, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
I have just read your comment Node ue and is not true. I'm not in favor of Bogdangiusca! He wrote a request here for permission, there was a voting poll. What is unfair? I had nothing to do with the request else than do it. Any other steward would have done the same. Even if you are (were) sysop, he could candidate and be sysop. It's not forbidden to have two sysops. The community accepted him. (I'm not shure that that was community). As far as I know, I presented my ideas regarding your administratorship at mowiki and I said that I think your rights were unfair removed and without consulting vote and in my opinion you should be granted back the permissions. I don't have anything to do with this issue, is Yann's decision which I can't break (and I don't want to). -Romihaitza 14:27, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
What's unfair about Bogdangiusca's adminship is that he registered just a couple of days before he became an admin, and most of the people who voted for him had less than 50 contributions. Didn't you see Anthere's warning suggestion that we all wait a while before making him sysop? --Node
Didn't you see my warning about legality of the elections? As I stated in the mowiki when I made him sysop it was: "If problems occur please let stewards know". So... if there are problems, he can be treated the same as you were. -Romihaitza 09:30, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

I have been humiliated so much that I will not give them the pleasure of requesting my desysopping here. I also wish to be destewarded. Because they already said they will start a destewardprocedure as well. I also wish to be desysopped on all other nl: projects, on the Thai wikipedia and on the Laotian wikipedia that Iw as guarding. • Dear Oscar, don't try to bend the content of this page: above under the #Removal of access header (of which this request is a subtopic) it is written: Self-de-adminship can be requested here, and will be granted immediately. Waerth has asked self-de-adminship, so it should be granted immediately. Also, I think that provision is a good one, to avoid playing of games, e.g. Waerth trying to rally support of pro-voters, while giving the impression to potential contra-voters that the "vote is over". See also my second comment below. --Francis Schonken 16:52, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Two comments:
    1. "A desysop procedure against me has been started on nl: and unless I get 51 pro votes that will happen" contains a material error: nl:wikipedia guidelines at the start of the desysop procedure state: "Wanneer meer dan 25% van de geuite meningen (er is geen eis van een minimum aan reacties) het vertrouwen in de moderator opzegt dan verliest deze de moderator-status." — transl: When more than 25% of the expressed opinions (there is no minimum amount of reactions required) recall their confidence in a sysop, then (s)he loses sysop-status (ref - the translation is mine);
    2. Waerth should decide: either he stops trying to reduce the contra votes by indicating the vote is over at nl:Wikipedia:Afzetting moderators ("Ik bespaar nl.wikipedia het trauma van een verdere stemming ik laat me al mijn rechten overal ontnemen" — transl: I spare nl.wikipedia of the trauma of a further vote I let my rights be revoked everywhere); either he claims reconsideration, in which case the voting procedure should have its normal course until 24 January 13.00h. --Francis Schonken 15:31, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Two comments

  1. I will not un-steward him myself, as it could be perceived as a foundation decision. Which it should not be
  2. When Andre resigned, he simply removed himself all his rights. Note that Waerth can absolutely do the same thing if he feels so. No one is forced to keep a status he does not want any more. This said, I suggest considering things for a few days to avoid any hasty decision Anthere 17:54, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Waerth, thanks for reminding me of what I wrote about you nearly a year ago:

His usual behaviour when he can't have things his way is threatening he'll leave the project, which usually triggers "adherence" on nl wikipedia, and forces out those who don't "adhere".

Can you honestly say your behaviour has changed since that moment? Here's what you wrote yesterday:

Ik ben bij desysopping dus echt weg diff
(transl.) When de-sysoped I really leave

More and more I wonder whether we need that kind of sysop... The least that can be said is that that makes clear that content of the Wikipedia encyclopedia is not your primary concern. Clinging to power is. I'm not worried that you think little of, and engage in mud-slinging at the guy that honestly says that "the emperor has no clothes". --Francis Schonken 19:52, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

I really don't think that this kind of discutions should be made in the request page. -Romihaitza 20:04, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Neither do I! Either Waerth gets de-sysopped, complying to his self-de-adminship request (why did that need discussion? I didn't start it!); Either he stops pretending he really wants this self-de-adminship, and removes the notification such request is being handled here from nl:Wikipedia:Afzetting moderators, so that the discussion is on that page (again, I didn't start a discussion here about Waerth's self-de-adminship...). --Francis Schonken 20:40, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
  • I am desysopped because 29% felt it necessary. I do not give them fun of asking for it so I have done it myself I will post some emails regarding this whole idiocy and will leave wikimedia after that untill at least March 1st. Or when my stomach is well enough from the shit hurled at me by a minority. Waerth 13:29, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

DeCheckUser Czech CheckUsers

I am illegally banned on cs: since 2 September 2005 (now 136 days) and since 21 September 2005 (now 117 days) without an interruption – see log. The CheckUser Policy doesn't permit public distribution of IP address of registered users. Data Protection Act doesn't allow to collect personal data about anybody without his or her consent. The document CheckUser says that data about IP address of registered users are kept no longer than one month.

Since I did not edit with my account cs:Wikipedista:Z for almost four months, Czech CheckUsers have had no legal knowledge of my IP address. They violated law by storing data about me without my consent. They violated Wikipedia Policy by checking IP address they have no legal access to.

This breach of CheckUser conduct was committed by Wikimol and Beren: cs:Wikipedie:Pod lípou#Kar. Since Mormegil cannot be the only Czech CheckUser, it is upon your consideration he should be DeCheckUser as well. The page on cs: should be deleted because it contains my personal data without my consent. The other CheckUsers should not fullfil request of IP address confirmation made by Czech users because they have IP addresses illegally. -- V. Z. 18:48, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

The only IP published on the page you linked is not ISP, but a normal webserver. If this is the case, I don't think we can do anything in this matter, since this IP could be taken as a link to the website. Besides, the IP wasn't posted by a CheckUser, but by a normal contributor. Datrio 19:26, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

No, I am sorry. The published address (193. ...) is publicly and ilegally connected to my account. It is substantial breach of Data Protection Act. I have no problem with translation of IP address to a hostname or vice versa. But both the IP address and the hostname Czech CheckUsers legally don't know.

In my view you, as a CheckUser, cannot confirm publicly unknown IP address with registered account, but only two registered accounts or an anonymous edit with the registered account. You have no right to check IP address posted by a normal contributor if you don't know source of its knowledge. -- V. Z. 10:18, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, let me explain this in a way I heard from the Czech community. Sorry I won't give out links, but I don't even have them stored in my browser.
One of the users of your community did a DNS search for the domain of your email address which is publicly available on your site. He got an IP number of the site and posted it on the page you linked. Since there was a possibility that you're using a sockpuppet, the editors checked this IP as a possible IP you were using. End of story.
I can't confirm anything, but that's the story I heard from them. If this is the case, the CheckUser policy hasn't been abused, and our CheckUsers didn't violate any legal act. This would be a case between you and the contributor who posted this IP address. Datrio 21:53, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for explanation, but I don't find satisfactory. Because I link on my wiki page to my website and on my website I provide my e-mail, everybody has a right to spy my IP address? This is absurd.

I still insist on that is the CheckUser policy violation to check IP addresses from other sources than wiki edits (registred or anonymous). Otherwise it would be legal to sniff about my private life. -- V. Z. 09:37, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

nl:Gebruiker:Errabee

As a result of the increased trouble with trolls on the Dutch wikipedia, the current guidelines for sysops have become inadequate and ineffective. After many quarrels whether blocks for certain troublesome users were according to these old guidelines, an attempt was made to reformulate these guidelines, which was thwarted by several people trying to postpone implementation of new guidelines. The only result so far is the desysop procedure against Waerth. 72 Pro votes are now needed, and I am very concerned to see several sysops and an occasional steward signing against Waerth. Several other very respected users and sysops have left the Dutch Wikipedia at least temporarily because of discontent with the desysop procedure. I cannot live with guidelines that tie sysops so much that they can do nothing to stop those who would like to destroy the community; these guidelines in effect declare that hunting season on sysops is open permanently. I am therefore contemplating resignation as sysop on nl:, and applying again only after new appropriate guidelines have been implemented. I consider myself not to be bound to the current guidelines anymore. If that is enough for immediate removal of my modbit, please do so immediately. See my talk page on the nl: wiki. Sysop en:Mikkalai had used his admin power to block a contributor in an outrageous attempt. Sysop en:Mikkalai engaged in an edit war, then he blocked the opponents. The blocked user made only a single edit [[16]]. Still en:Mikkalai didn't reached consensus and was asked to stop the edit war [[17]] by two other users. Still he blocked the user en:user:86.106.51.95. There was also posted a notice on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdministrators%27_noticeboard&diff=36558375&oldid=36557182 Wikipedia Administrator's noticeboard a message that concludes very good the bad behaviour of sysop en:Mikkalai. The reason given by mikka is "blocking with an expiry time of 24 hours (offense)". Still there is not an offense in the edit [[[[18]]. Why didn't explain sysop en:Mikkalai what is the offense that he thinks it is?

There is one more important aspect: en:Mikkalai is well known for having Anti-Romanian feelings, he was even blocked once for that reason: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=block&user=&page=User%3AMikkalai.

I ask for my sysop permission again. Now we currently have four sysops that Avichai gave them this status for the same purpose, translating the interface, but none of them were in the site for the past week, and some of them lost any interest in this project. We can't vote on the sysop's issue as there are only 1-2 people that edit the site nowadays, and nobody wants to be a bureaucrat. Last month, when we had more editors, we decided that the site will stay in a beta version until the end of the year. Meanwhile, there are a few cases of vandalism and we virtually can't do anything. We may manually revert, and hide all the not-news articles from the readers, or simply do nothing as there aren’t any readers at all, but it is not a good solution. None 08:16, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

I am perplex. On meta, only a request for temporary sysophood is requested. But Almorca is both sysop and bureaucrat. I looked in 2005 archives and could find no place where he requested sysophood and bureaucrat status and the votation page does not give me more information. Accordingly, I removed both status (they should have probably been temporary ?). I saw this yesterday, Almorca has made sysop duties at least since April 2004 (according to the site's log). So my guess is that he was only asking a change of logo, which is now changed. I asked Almorca for more information about his request before archiving it. --Ascánder 12:20, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

seeing the local bureaucrat log, and not finding anything against almorca, i don't object. but why did he/she ask for "temporary sysophood"?? oscar 23:52, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
And why is the vote in 2005 if he has been sysop since 2004 ? I suppose he actually was given (then removed) an "import" status. Anyway, at least Ascander is able to read the candidatura pages over there, so naturally, no objection. Anthere
He explained in my talk page that he thought he needed a special flag to change the logo of the project. Two weeks later the logo was changed and he forgot his request until today (I'm sorry Anthere, I meant since April 2005). --Ascánder 00:15, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Flags restored --Ascánder 00:20, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
(after edit conflict:)so i also understood, therefore no objection to restoring almorca's rights. oscar 00:22, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

its a permanent request. anyway thanks i got it. Jiddisch 13:13, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

This project has 3 bureaucrats. Contact them! -Romihaitza 13:21, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

wikt:en:User:Jon Harald Søby

There was ongoing impersonating of the most active member (~10 accounts with almost identical names), and no admins online on IRC (and since nothing by this/these users was deleted/reverted, I assume no admin was online at all). I did a Checkuser on a few of them, but without any firm results. I blocked them all for three days (an eventual infinite block will be up to the local admins). Jon Harald Søby 19:38, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

The same done today, one IP blocked after checkusering. Jon Harald Søby 18:33, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
And today, per request of bureaucrat (here). Jon Harald Søby 15:11, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Datrio@shwiki

Granting myself temporary sysop/developer permission to stop the sh users from vandalizing and blocking. Eventually, to close the Wikipedia. Datrio 22:55, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Datrio, please, do explain us, who are you going to block, and why did you unblock a person who blanked a dozen articles? Why do you insist on closing a valid project? --Dcabrilo 23:52, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
There we can see people who want to contribute. That Wikipedia have over 2000 articles. --Pokrajac 17:26, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

It is "he". Correct, he is inactive currently, that is why I want to help him. Borgx 03:42, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

No. Please desysop me. stv
done. oscar 14:36, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Removal of checkuser

  • Oxydo@arwiki. I did not find where he got the permission to have this status. If I was wrong, please add the link to the page where the status was requested and approved. Anthere 09:41, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Ah, found it. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_permissions/Archive1#arabic_wikipedia_-_checkuser

The users concerned were

  • ar:User:Tarawneh
  • ar:User:Chaos
  • ar:User:Oxydo
  • ar:User:Jak

They should be listed on CheckUser if status is restored. According to the ar voting page, they did not comply to the current policy to get access (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CheckUser_Policy#Access). Not enough voters.

So, I am removing them for now. I saw that a couple of them made some checks, but these were not numerous at all. I fully understand why they were made checkuser, but what is the point of having a policy if we do not follow it at all ? If it is not suitable, then proposition should be made to modify it.

Anthere

Hi Anthere , I havn,t known previously about the condition of number of Voters , acually we need this permission in Arabic wikipedia for some urgent issues related to Voting and socks puppets , anyway we have restored the Voting now to be continued , but still i think the number of 25 voters is somehow high for small wikipedia's so if we try to reconsider this condition in the policy , it would be better as i think ..thanks for ur kindness --Chaos 13:12, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

According to the checkuser policy if the project cannot have at least 25 votes for, no checkuser will be set to that project. If you need checks you can always ask a steward. -Romihaitza 13:16, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Recent Patrol

I did not find a better place to ask for this. (If there is another, better one, please direct me to that place.) I would like to have the Recent Changex Patrol mechanism enabled in the Low Saxon Wiktionary (nds.wiktionary.org) just like it is already enabled in the Low Saxon Wikipedia, where it is a great help to kick out vandalism.

Thanks a lot in advance. HeikoEvermann 20:18, 29 December 2005 (UTC) (Admin in nds.wiktionary.org)

Username change

To User:Water Bottle

I would like to change my username in various projects (Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikibooks, Korean Wikipedia, French Wikipedia, Wikimedia, Wikinews and Wikisource) to User:Water Bottle. Thank you. (Guy at Korean Wikipedia told me to come here to change it. I already requested on Wikipedia as well) -- WB 06:35, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

for wikibooks, you should ask a bureaucrat over there to do it. Anthere 10:53, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
Ant, the en:b: bureaucrats are all missing or inactive for the last few weeks. We're electing a new one, but right now there are effectivly none. 71.131.244.13 09:58, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Yeah. It just happens to be that he was away for four days. All done now. (at least that's what I thought before I found that I had a Wikisource account. haha) -- WB 06:44, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Ido Wikipedia username takeover

This is User:Mkill from en, de and some 40 other wikipedias. I've done some interwiki linking and fixing (around 400 pages, I guess) under my username in lots of different wikipedias. I use a name instead of IP so people can contact me when there is a problem. I would also like to use my username in Ido wikipedia, but it was already reserved, by a user with only one edit. I talked to an admin in Ido Wikipedia about it, io:User:Mithridates, and he said I could have the username but I should come here to request it. So I came here. --Mkill 23:00, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Do you mean that this http://io.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Mkill is not you account on that Wikipedia? If so then that is clearly a active user. Even with only one edit. If that person is willing to change his username for this no problem. I would not waste any time about this. Only make sure that you have used a emailadress and the same for all accounts. The universal login is coming soon. If you are a older user and have accounts on many wikis then you will keep your username and it will be valid for all projects. --Walter 23:51, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
accounts cannot be deleted by stewards, they can, however, be renamed, by a bureaucrat on the project, to a name which is not existing on the project at the time of renaming. oscar 02:26, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

I have a similar problem. First, sorry for my very poor english. I have accounts in some wikipedias and wiktionarys, all using 555 as login. But, at the en:Wikipedia, I uses 555pt. Is possible to rename my username on en:Wikipedia? The 555 login on it never edited anything (see here). Tanks. --555 23:55, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
