Tuinui@lo wiktionary

I request to become a sysop at lo:wiktionary to translate the interface. It does not seem that anyone else is actively creating/editing this wiki, so I am requesting on my own behalf. I am already a Sysop and translated most of the interface at lo:wikipedia. Here are my talk pages at lo:wiktionary or lo:wikipedia

This would be a situation for temporary adminship, not permanent. We can't grant permanent adminship in projects without a local community (and its support). Would you mind moving your request to the appropriate section and, most importantly, defining a duration for it that you would consider sufficient to do the translating you intend to do? Thank you, Redux 14:15, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Please do not translate the interface locally, please do it on betawiki: only. Please create an account there, go to betawiki:Betawiki:Translator and ask for translator status, it will be granted fast, then go to betawiki:Special:Translate and select lo. Thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Hehe, no vote at all I guess since the one there was Bengoa himself. @Bengoa: For what do you need the sysop access? Something special or just maintaining the wiki? We could give you temporary sysopship for 3 months if you want. --Thogo (talk) 20:39, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

I want the access to sysop to support well this wiki, since they can enter spam, advertising... Because of it was asking for the access, not for nothing more.--Bengoa My user talk 12:39, 1 March 2008 (UTC).

That voting is more than a year old. That strikes me as strange, at best. I'm inclined not to give permanent status. However, there's one (recently) active admin that seems to be perm. --FiLiP ¤ 16:16, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Why would a year old voting request be "strange"? User:Au8ust received the third vote only as recently as this year. If you are still unsure or hesitant, then you can certainly ask User:Waerth because he is an Admin on Lao Wikipedia and knows the situation very clearly. --Jose77 21:21, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Jordz@ceb-wp

I am requesting that ceb:User:Jordz be made a bureaucrat of the Cebuano Wikipedia. I had already made him a sysop and he had been one for a long time now, and had helped the community in countless ways. I think it is proper to make him a bureaucrat by this time so that he can do more for the community. Currently there is only one bureaucrat at ceb-wp (yours truly).

Thank you. --Bentong Isles 06:08, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I was under the impression that some sort of local discussion had to take place prior to a bureaucrat being locally appointed? Anthøny 07:43, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I thought the local bureaucrat is able to grant those rights himself. Is the steward action really neccessary here? --Zirland 07:45, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Not done. Exactly. Bentong Isles, please use ceb:Special:UserRights to make Jordz bureaucrat yourself. Steward action is unnecessary. --FiLiP ¤ 08:05, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
My bad. I thought I could not do that myself. Thanks, I've promoted him myself already. @Anthony: There are only virtually four users at the Cebuano Wikipedia today (Jordz, Edgar Godin, s.o. who always forget to login, and yours truly). My main reason for the request was the fact that I got involved in a project which is taking too much of my time (discussed in my user page) and I could not deal with some matters efficiently. --Bentong Isles 11:24, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

A consensus was reached for granting the oversight-status to users currently already having the check user-status on Finnish Wikipedia. They have already identified themselves to the foundation when becoming check users so presenting identification again is not necessary.

I withdraw the request and started a poll about the rights at Finnish Wikipedia. Let's wait for the results and then come back to this again.--Joonasl 07:35, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
On hold I don't see a community voting there. Or was it an arbcom decision? --Thogo (talk) 11:01, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
There has not been any voting or ArbCom decision, only discussion (less than a week, it seems). –Ejs-80 11:08, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Well... So there is not really a community consensus yet, right? --Thogo (talk) 11:15, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Most of the people who have participated in the discussion have supported this proposal (though I personally would've preferred longer time for this discussion) –Ejs-80 11:22, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Hm, ok. But for such things it's always better to have a voting (or an arbcom decision) rather than just discussion. We can't decide if there is consensus or not, if there is no countable result... I guess we let it "on hold", at least for now. --Thogo (talk) 11:26, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Actually all of the people participating in the conversation at the time i made the request (which has been prominently shown at the "Current Events"-page). Since the support was unanimous I though no voting would be necessary. After I made this request one opposing opinion has been added. What happened to Polls are evil? :) If one counts the comments in support vrs. opposed, the ratio at this time is 18:1 [9], which sounds like a concensus to me. There is no reason why the discussion can not continue a bit longer on this while we are here "on hold", though --Joonasl 15:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
A note of the conversation was added to "Current Events"-page only about 50 hours before Joonasl made this request [10]. Before that conversation had continued six four days in the "Mixed issues" (fi:Sekalaista) section of "Kahvihuone". Obviously it would have been a good idea to put the note to "Current Events" at an earlier stage and begin the conversation in the "Policies" (fi:Käytännöt) section of "Kahvihuone" [11] (or move it there). --AB-fi 01:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

By the way, I noticed that Meta:Rewriting/Oversight policy#Access to oversight says: “After gaining consensus (80%) in his local community, with at least 25 editors' approval, the user should list himself under Requests for permissions with a link to the page with the community's decision. – – If a sufficient number of voters do not vote for two oversighters on a wiki, there will be no oversighter on that wiki.” Is this the current policy? (I don't want to ask about the Arbitration Committee option, since ArbCom's role in granting checkuser or oversight rights has not yet been clarified in Finnish Wikipedia) –Ejs-80 20:47, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

It's the rewrite of the current policy. At the moment, there is no requirement for multiple oversights, but (in my opinion, mind) it appears that it will certainly pass. The rest of the statement, other than the number of oversights however, is current policy. ~Kylu (u|t) 21:30, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, this means that we have to have a vote if we want users with oversight rights. The update of the page Hiding revisions is really needed, since it doesn't tell anything about this at the moment. –Ejs-80 23:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
The current policy is here and says nothing about mandatory voting.--Joonasl 06:51, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
A couple notes: Oversight is a redirect to Hiding revisions, which Ejs-80 already pointed out. That's the policy on the permission itself, not about granting it, which would be at Steward policies#Don't decide. They need a clear-cut decision shown on the matter and the steward policy page states "election" in that section. This is part of the reason for the rewrite: clarification of the processes used to place trusted users in the positions we need them in. Thanks for your concern and understanding. ~Kylu (u|t) 18:43, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

I see 27 support votes and 6 opposes. I don't understand what is wrong. –Ejs-80 16:16, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok, this is strange. Now that I logged in, I can see the 27 votes. Must have been a cache problem. --FiLiP ¤ 16:19, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

This confirmation above is from vi:Wikipedia:Tin nhắn cho bảo quản viên (Admins' noticeboards), and the title is "Request for desysop" in Vietnamese. This user requested for a long time, and Vietnamese Wikipedia already considers him former sysop, I make a request here to offically remove his sysop status. vi.wiki appreciates his former work as sysop very much. Thank you. Vinhtantran 02:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but he very rarely comes up again. You can verify by asking another Vietnamese Wikipedia's member, User:mxn (meta's sysop, vi.wiki's bureaucrat) is a good choice. Vinhtantran 11:06, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Here's a rough translation of his message from Vietnamese into English (I'm better at translating the other way around):
Hello everyone,
I am Nguyễn Cường. Really, for a very long time now, I have neither accessed nor contributed to Wikipedia. There are many objective reasons for this, and I truly regret that I must ask to stop being an administrator here.
I only came to this decision because I felt uncomfortable about not being able to come here often. As always, I look up to the vision that Wikipedia is striving for. I will certainly continue to support the Vietnamese Wikipedia as an ordinary user. When I have a chance, I will ask to return to the role of administrator, once time permits.
I wish all of my fellow administrators continued success.
I hope to see the Vietnamese Wikipedia continue to gain more users and abundance in content. NOB 07:04, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Not counting neutral votes, there's a 75% support for desysopping the user. What does your policy say regarding this? --FiLiP ¤ 10:37, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
AR Wiki doesn't have a policy for desysopping, but users must get at least 75% of the supporting votes to become sysops. --MK 10:47, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Done --FiLiP ¤ 11:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

As MK says ar wp has no policy for desysopping. "users must get at least 75% of the supporting votes to become sysops," this is for sysopping only. the voting (!) page does not list the result yet. The community has not agreed regarding this issue. I request the reinstating of rights until the community agrees. Funny enough is that MK himself refuses to grant rights to a user because he thinks neutral votes should be counted as against sysopping. The issue goes back to April 2006 and the page still does not tell the result. I wonder why voting here finished yesterday and a request was made before listing the result there, while the other issue no one cares about. In any case please reinstate the rights until ar wp community agrees on the issue. Санта Клаус 15:01, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

So, what, if there's no desysop policy, no one can get desysopped? I consulted a prominent member of the community and just cleared my doubts. I stand by my "decision" --FiLiP ¤ 15:16, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
The issue is that we don't know which votes to count and how to count them and what to do with the result. This request is premature. The policy MK relies on is irrelevant (sysopping only). When the commutiy agrees how to handle this issue a request can be made here. Санта Клаус 15:21, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

hi i am the "الباحث" i really dont have problems with removal of my administrative status but atleast we must make the commutiy agrees about this without that it will be unfair and with canceld the votes of neutrals so think we must let the commutiy agrees how to handle this issue it will be more justice and better for all of us Q8wall 16:20, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I have only one comment on this: Санта Клаус is trolling. No one in arwiki objected on the desysop except الباحث himself (who is now blocked on arwiki by admin OsamaK for violating 3RR rule) and even if anyone objects the issue can be discussed locally where الباحث may be resysopped by another bureaucrat, so, no further steward action is requested. Thanks. --Meno25 18:44, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
"even if anyone objects the issue can be discussed locally," which is what everyone deserves at ar wp. Your COI with الباحث are well know there - what is the relevance of mentioning his block? Why do voting pages on ar wp state the result (example) but not this one? State the result there, make sure a consensus is reached about how to count! then anyone can submit a request here. There are what I consider spa; user:Jordan123 contributed nothing during 2008 but votes and personal attacks for which he was blocked. The last line of his userpage says: tens of articles from multiple accounts. Don't you think a CU is warranted? Let's discuss things there then come back here. Санта Клаус 19:44, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

i just want to solve it with the commutiy also i feel so sad and unfair because of that in the other hand all my demand is solve it with the commutiy then we will come here esey not the opeset and really i dont sad for the adminship because its just work and i allready done alot of my work... so doing this without community is not fair atleast for me and its up to you to make it with comutiy deside Q8wall 19:15, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I am translating what MK wrote on user:Meno25 page [21] as it helps illustrate the situation. MK or Meno25 can correct me. Cp Google.

It seems there is an objection to the issue [desysopping]. All I have done is to transfer the voting result to Meta (I was about to do it even if it was 60% so a steward there can decide as we don't have a specific percentage for desysopping). I have not yet stated my opinion on the matter of desysopping الباحث but I respect the voting result.

As far as I know, this is no stewards' business yet. Please revert. Санта Клаус 00:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Please feel free to take the conversation to Requests for comments if you wish to continue it on Meta, but the decision regarding deadminship on your wiki should be determined by consensus there, not here. The action has been performed already. With the lack of a local ArbCom and lack of local policy, stewards have to make due with what consensus seems to bear. ~Kylu (u|t) 04:16, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Please do nothing (and undo pending a local discussion) until the local community reaches a consensus. Санта Клаус 11:22, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

As Kylu already said, this discussion is closed. If you see any need to discuss that furthermore, please go to RFC. --Thogo (talk) 11:39, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I can say that the policy was previously to remove admin privileges after two years of total inactivity. In February, after a discussion, the policy was changed to say that any sysop without any admin actions in the last 12 months will be de-admined (unless there is a known and justified reason for inactivity). J.Pitkä has certainly been inactive long enough to warrant the action requested above. –Ejs-80 12:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

 On hold, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 00:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
This vote is very strange, the first vote is from the candidate himself, the 3 others are from inactive users. I wonder why he needs temp-sysop and why can't he speak for himself since he has an account here, he just contacted me some days ago for another reason. Best regards. --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Can I explain first ? Firstly, I do not wish to be an temporary sysop for Laos Wikipedia. Mr. Jose77 included some word which is not my word. I wish to be just a normal sysop there. I don't speak for myself here because I don't need to be temporary sysop access, I was elected by Laos user and wish to be the sysop there (with the experience of near-native level). I'd like to say again that I do not wish to be a temporary sysop. The 3 inactive users - let me just explain.
There are 3 supporters
  • User:Au8ust - was active but due to his work, on this year, he didn't edit Wikipedia quite much, but he still monitoring it and let me consult him about spellings (hard words) and other things.
  • User:Jose77 - is not inactive
  • User:Karen - I don't know who's him, suppose he's pass by and see that page. I don't really know that.
And me, I'm studying and don't have quite much time apart from the weekend. P.S. I didn't say that "I wish to become an temporary admin..." Best Regards, Passawuth 12:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Also, please note that first I think Jose77 is an Meta-administrator, but I was wrong. At that time, I see Jose77 say {{done}} on Requests for adminiship on Laos wikipedia so I think he is. Anyway, that time Tuinui was granted by someone, when there was 2 people voting for him. I also think that 3 people voting for me is quite adiquate. I just wonder who granted lo:User:Tuinui to be a sysop. I just wish to be like him, and I wrote more about the reason on Laos Wikipedia. Best Regards, Passawuth 12:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. Albert Fazlî 11:32, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Of course, i understand what import does. It's importing of wiki-content in XML format. I have enough expriense in wikisoft instalation/configuration, about 4 years. I want to import my dictionaries (i'm author of some Türkic dics). Tatarish Wikipedia was started and created by me and my bot. BTW Now I think i need regular admin permissions for protection from spam... Albert Fazlî 15:04, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Please note that sysop-flag only grants You the posibility to import from another wiki for which transwiki has been activated (per default none if not asked specifically on bugzilla normally). Only import-flag grants You the posibility to upload from xml.files. Even if You are the author, are those dictionaries free, to be able to import them? Also, I noticed You are new to tt.wiktionary, do You know which format they prefer and how entries should look like? Thanks for Your thoughts, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 15:14, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
