Research talk:Beyond the Individual: Community-Engaged Design and Implementation of a Framework for Ethical Online Communities Research

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Workshop Interest and Recruitment[edit]

The University of Minnesota is working with Wikimedia (and other online communities) to develop guidelines for researchers to more effectively work with and support online communities.

We invite you to help out with a study to help develop these guidelines. You will have the opportunity to explain the values of Wikipedia and advocate for the well-being of Wikipedia and its users. If you're interested, please respond below and we will reach out with more information!

What will be expected of me if I want to participate?[edit]

You'll join other Wikipedia community members in a 2-hour online workshop. You will participate in activities and discussions to uncover Wikipedia's values (as you see them) and ways that research can help or harm the community.

Will I be compensated?[edit]

Yes. After completing a short exit survey after the workshop, you'll receive your choice of a $40 gift card. Zentavious (talk) 15:04, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's great! I'm glad you saw the post. We took it down from Signpost, but are still looking for editors for our next workshop. If you're comfortable sharing your email, fill out this survey and I can reach out with more information. Zentavious (talk) 16:40, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bluerasberry Thank you for your continued interest! We recently recruited on r/Wikipedia which got us really close, but are 2-3 participants shy of quorum to start the scheduling processes for our next workshop. Inevitably, the selected time won't work for everyone.
I know you're extremely active in the Wikipedia community! Do you know anyone else who might be interested? Or know of any other channels/community pages that we could garner a little more interest? Zentavious (talk) 15:25, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are the regulars who developed the research documentation over the years, and you can find them in the history logs. For some new voices

Late, but I'm interested.[edit]

I meant to respond to this earlier. If you are still looking for people ... Daniel Case (talk) 01:48, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Daniel Case No worries! We have another workshop with researchers, editors, and WMF employees coming up on April 30th, from 3-5pm CST. Are you available then? We have a consent form + a few pre-workshop questions that help us seed the discussions with your asynchronous thoughts. Are you comfortable filling out survey off platform? If not, I'd be more than happy to provide another option either over email or in-wiki. Zentavious (talk) 16:21, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
