Talk:Google Hangouts

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Would it be appropriate to mention alternatives for persons who live in Mainland China? Google services often have difficulty while being used in Mainland China and they often require proxies or VPNs.

  • Skype tends to work in China, although the quality sometimes isn't good and sometimes calls disconnect. Some Chinese employers do use Skype to talk to potential employees.
  • WeChat (texting service) is China-based and works great
  • QQ is China-based

mumble?[edit]

Not knowing what Google hangouts really are, how about mumble? The most recent Windows version as of now is at https://github.com/mumble-voip/mumble/releases/download/1.2.10/mumble-1.2.10.msi and there are *nix versions of both client and server as well. We use it with great success as our voice conferencing system in the German Pirate Party, having had some 200 participants to countless conferences. The recordings of some of them, e.g. with world bank scientists, are on youtube. --Purodha Blissenbach (talk) 11:38, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Accounts[edit]

Would be really nice if people didn't upload videos with their personal accounts... It's very painful to have that mass of random accounts holding videos all scattered, especially as transfer is impossible. Nemo 08:36, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
