Hardware donation status[edit]

Dear @User:Asaf (WMF). I had recieved a laptop during the Tiger Project 2.0 in 2019, however it stopped working after few months. Since then I am mostly managing through my mobile device. I am now managing two international projects of Wiki Loves Folklore and Feminism and Folklore as I face many challanges for its coordination due to unavailability of laptop. Can you help with the status of the request as also I will be attending Wikimania in person at Singapore and is excited to meet you in person. Tiven2240 (talk) 05:54, 25 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @Tiven2240. I am sorry to hear the laptop you received from CIS as part of Project Tiger has stopped working. I don't know what CIS's policy is about that equipment, and whether it may still be under manufacturer warranty. I encourage you to discuss this directly with @Pavan (CIS-A2K) at CIS.
You are eligible for a laptop from the Wikimedia Foundation's Hardware Donation Program (which is a different program), so it is likely you would eventually receive a laptop through it. However, the program is quite slow (due to a limited number of machines ready for donation, and limited opportunities to deliver them), so there is quite a backlog already, and we try to give laptops to people who have been waiting a long time before we serve newer requests. That is the reason I had not yet formally approved your request; precisely so as not to create a false sense that you'll be getting a laptop soon.
Therefore, I am afraid we won't be able to use the upcoming opportunity in Singapore to give you a donated laptop. I would be very glad to meet you in person, of course. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 16:39, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
