Clean start?

There needs to be some way to implement a clean start. A logged-in user has the ability to abandon an account and create a new one (with the constraints of policies about socking, etc). Likewise, an anonymous user should have the same ability. I don't know how you differentiate between a legitimate clean start and just plain evasion. RoySmith (talk) 00:03, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Beyond switching to a new IP, you mean? /Johan (WMF) (talk) 10:55, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Hey everyone – this is mainly to tell you we're not ignoring things here. Thanks a lot for all the feedback. While we're working on the checkuser tools, we're also considering all the discussions we've had here (and elsewhere). In a couple of weeks we're moving into the holiday season for most people at the Foundation; we'll be back properly in January with more thoughts. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 07:06, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

More thoughts? Why are there more thoughts to the near-unanimous consensus to not implement this? This should be archived by now. Computer Fizz (talk) 17:23, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
(Anyone interested in the reply to this, see Talk:IP Editing: Privacy Enhancement and Abuse Mitigation/Improving tools#Take no for an answer, where this discussion is currently taking place. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 18:36, 23 January 2020 (UTC))
