An online Indic Wikisource Proofreadthon August 2021 is going ​​across India, please participate, proofread and Win prizes..

Clarification Needed[edit]

I have added my name in the Participants' list. I have few doubts for which I need clarification.

  1. Whether I have to select my book for proof reading from the list of books? or the admin will allocate my book?
  2. How to intimate the book I had selected for Proof reading to the rest of the group so that no duplication occurs?
  3. Is there any rule governing the addition of books (in my language) to the book list?
  4. Maximum how many books I can add to the book list?
  5. Whether I can select more than a book initially itself?

Thank you for your queries. The below reply may help you to clear the doubts.

  1. It is depending upon the community standard and decision. You may start proofreading with any book listed Or you may start a discussion among the participants about book distribution to be proofread as like Hindi Wikisource doing now.
  2. In normal procedure, when you start proofreading any book without community discuss, you should keep minimum 10 pages gap from another user to eliminate Edit conflict.
  3. There is no limitation on the number of books to be added. Any Wikisource user could propose a book to be proofread. The book may be added anytime before the start or end day
  4. There is no limitation on the number of books to be added.
  5. Yes, you could do it with a discussion with the community.

Eligibilty cretiria for reviewers needed[edit]

Hope that this time Proofreadthon will happen smoothly than last time. There is a situation/ more talking happening in ta.wikisource talk page. In the project page, there is a talk tap. All talking should be done in that page only. but happening in few subpage's talk pages. though i created links few minutes before. Two college professors wants to participate as a Proofreadthon reviewer along with thier students. In the last Proofreadthon, they did good edits and become top 10. We never framed any Eligibilty cretiria for reviewers. One of our reviewer arguing to them to stop and saying that they are not eligible. Arguments never develop any community. Review work is simple. @Info-farmer and Balajijagadesh:, As I checked from local ta wikisource talkpage, you are discussing 3 major points.
  1. Eligibility criteria for reviewers
  2. Proofrading
  3. Reviewing (accept/revert)
  4. Use of template like {{Nop}} and others.

Eligibility criteria for reviewers[edit]

Any experience user could be nominate him/her-self as Reviewer. It is extra responsibility towards the wikisource project to control the quality of text and its manual of style. He/She should active proofread of respective project in couple of year. If possible, Reviewer may be nominated by the community will be very good. But present situation in our Indic Wikisource contributor is very small. So we are encouraging now as self-nominated Reviewer. Although this is not a good practice. But if any community think that they will promote a reviewer a experienced proofreader, they may do.

Proofreading[edit]

Proofreading is the foundation of Wikisource, providing the best quality texts in our library.Wikisource has a style guide and certain formatting conventions that should be used during proofreading to make sure that our texts look correct and function properly.Proofreading have two separate task:

  • Checking OCR error and rectify: No OCR software can not recognized the scan text properly. The proofreader must check the text and present as shown in scan book. Even though the spell in mis-printed in book. All text should be re-presented as shown in scan.
  • Maintain the layout and formatting: With using of the various template , the proofreader must be re-present the whole page as shown in scan page inrestect to typography and layout.

Reviewing (accept/revert)[edit]

If the proofreader follow the above two steps during the proofreading and save as "Proofread", then its will be accepted. Some minor mis-takes may be ignored. But the reviewers thinks 60-70% things area not ok as per standard, reviewers should send a message to users talk page about his error. The user must be rectify those error within 24 hr during this contest periods. If user not rectify with 24 hr, reviewers may revert his/her contribution.

Use of template[edit]

{{Nop}} and ether template should be use. Because this is a standard practice we are following in wikisource erena. If you are using another template or another procedure follow instead of using nop template, please share you method to the whole wikisource community. We would like to learn from you. We and wikisource contributor will be benefited from your community. This is the platfort where, we all 12 indic language family share each other best practice.

How Points will be credited? Please Help[edit]

Someone please let me know how will we get points. I have created two pages (Page 92 and 94 in ద్విపద భారతము విరాట పర్వము) but I am not seeing any points being credited to me.
