QuickStatements 3.0

[edit]

@EPorto I'm glad to see someone take on QuickStatements. We at WBUG originally considered proposing improvements to QS but decided to focus on an in-wiki reimplementation of Cradle-like functionality. Hopefully there'll be funding for both! GreenReaper (talk) 17:34, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Community Feedback

[edit]

WMDE is curious to hear your feedback! Share your thoughts on the project proposals below. Maria Lechner (WMDE) (talk) 12:38, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

The cloud share of the proposals folder seems to have expired or been removed at source, so here's a copy of WBUG's Integrating form-based entity creation using Shape Expressions into the Wikibase UI (WMDE form version) for public review. GreenReaper (talk) 05:22, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have concerns on the implementation of wireframes and technical designs. Is there a standard by WMDE for the appearance of any project, particularly web applications or in any case are we to submit our UI/UX designs for approval. Pnlarbi (talk) 07:40, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not quite sure if this is what you are looking for but Codex is the modern WMF design system, and it comes with a style guide. GreenReaper (talk) 17:46, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes this is enough, thank you very much. Pnlarbi (talk) 15:55, 28 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I support the Wiki Movimento Brasil's 'mobile app for Wikidata' project.
In the past, I also worked on this idea during a previous Wishathon, but I couldn't finish it. Rtnf (talk) 17:00, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I will like to inquire as to whether AI service integration is allowed in any case, where projects approved will want to have that as a feature within their respective projects. Pnlarbi (talk) 23:21, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Expression of support

[edit]
  • I greatly appreciate the proposal for a new Cradle editor.
  • Also, the OR reconciliation service should be included as an standard feature in the Wikibase product bundles. I don't have an opinion about rewriting or not, but it would be appreciated from the very small GLAM point of view.

Personally, I regret a lot to have misunderstood the call opportunity. Now I'm checking the proposals, I see we could have sent the Wikimedia LEADS concept too. That's life. —Ismael Olea (talk) 17:15, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Synergy and Enrichment by LabDom

[edit]

Two interesting words Synergy and Enrichment ! Such ideas are also identifiable in the papers arguing for the leverage of the new item creator tool in order to increase the knowledge figured by the data.

Should I understand that the two words are dedicated to a new community with two classes of users : one in charge of data enrichment and a second the data consumers creating the synergy for the first. Both classes expected new tools to accomplish their tasks !

I would suggest decision makers, involved in the current selection, to have a look at and promote the new paradigm based on the usage of micro services in order to separate new business logic (like Rest API) from mediawiki core and encapsulate new UI in existing pages as HTML iFrame . On this point I also suggest reviewing the very recent delivery of Template:OWID to access external data from OWD sites (https://eu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haurdunaldi#Nerabezaroa) , an example of interactive content ! LabDom (talk) 17:50, 26 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

IMPORTANT NOTICE - I would like to add a warning in order to moderate the blind trust I communicate in the previous paragraph about the micro services approach and the usage of so called "sandboxed iFrame". There are currently heavy discussions within the community about the confidence for on this architecture !

Expression of support for Wikidata Localized Explorer App

[edit]
  • I wholeheartedly support the Wikidata mobile app initiative, which aims to assist users in discovering and learning about historical landmarks, museums, and cultural sites in close proximity to their current location. Also leveraging the resources that will be provided by events like the Coordinate Me 2024 , this app holds immense promise. I eagerly anticipate witnessing the fruition of this remarkable project (talk)

Quick thoughts

[edit]
  • Reconciliation -- extremely excited, we've needed this for a long, long time
  • Cradle in Rust -- yes please!
  • Fictionbase -- really like the specific use case + tooling for independent wikibases
  • WMB trio -- many good ideas, unclear how far each will get, QS needs love

Unfortunately, I gather the two Wikibase Community User Group proposals are unlikely to be funded through this grant, including the OpenRefine reconciliation extension... though I don't think we've yet heard that formally, just as we don't yet know which proposals are funded. Status update

[edit]

For anyone wondering: the latest update that I'm aware of came from WMDE on 22 May in the Wikibase Community Telegram group:

Final information to the submitted project proposals is expected to be communicated next week. Official communication to the community/public will take additional time.

So hopefully we'll know within the next few days - and be able to get to work, if appropriate! GreenReaper (talk) 23:24, 26 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

A brief expression of support

[edit]

Both QuickStatements 3.0 and improving Cradle (so that it can support qualifiers and references) would be very much welcome, from my point of view of Wikidata and Wikibase Cloud user. Epìdosis 15:32, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
