The professional translation implemented here today was produced for the Wikimedia Foundation by TransPerfect. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 19:14, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

A professional Japanese translation

First, a hearty thank you to those who have put their time into preparing a translation here!

We have obtained a professional translation to help make sure that the Japanese community is able to access and refer to the document in the Japanese language. Where there was no Japanese proposed, or where the Japanese proposed was outdated by subsequent changes to the English Terms of Use, this text has been implemented in the translated version. I am including the rest of the translation here in hopes that those fluent in Japanese can compare the current translation and this version to make sure that the best language is selected for our use.

The "pretty" version of the translation, with markup and formatting, can be seen in the pdf linked from the side. I'm including more raw text below in case anyone would like to easily access language to implement in the translation.

To translate, go to the top of the page in Japanese and click the link that says "translated version". It will bring up a long table. The text as displayed is visible in the table to the right. To change that text, click the link to the left, in the first column. It will pull up an editing window where you can enter your text.

Thank you! --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 19:14, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Nice work! Should we replace all with the professional translation or can we translate according to precedent(e.g. the mission statement)?--aokomoriuta (talk) 19:45, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
That is entirely up to you. :) It's just here to help. Just because it's professional doesn't mean it's automatically better. :) If you think the professional translation is better than what we have, you can replace or merge or whatever works. If you think what we have works better or just as well, you can certainly keep it. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 14:17, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
The sections that had been missing appear to be well done by the professional translator. For those sections with the two versions (the current version and TransPerfect's), both look ok to me, if there are some differences. I'd encourage people (including myself:)) to carefully merge the two to get an even better outcome. --whym (talk) 09:31, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
