Talk:Translation requests/WMF/Fundraising pages/Wikimedia needs your help

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

I don't pretend to know anything about this, but I am aware that (at least charities in the UK) are able to claim tax back from donations made by people in the UK provided said persons have paid an equal or greater amount in tax. Could this be done here? 14:55, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

You may want to add a link (external or wiki) on the words "Lounsbery Foundation". I was surprised not to see one. Thanks! -- Creidieki 05:03, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I'd prefer not since it is already linked from the budget. And since the goal of this letter is to increase donations, I don't think giving an external link would be a good idea. --Daniel Mayer 23:30, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi. The Donate Here Button should have a PayPal logo. I couldn't figure out where to donate at first. Also a link in the page would be good too. I'm going to edit it and see if the edit sticks.--68.238.161.132 18:51, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Other languages[edit]

Out of curiosity, why aren't all the languages featured here on the other page?

If you mean this page itself, if someone makes a translation voluntarily, his or her language will be featured. If you mean the red link, it is a template used on the WMF wiki and not here. Thanks. --Aphaia++ 06:18, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

e-gold[edit]

I would donate if I could give e-gold. 70.178.26.242 00:29, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

take advantage of existing offers[edit]

Curious why some offers such as googles are not taken advantage of. Makes it harder to feel good about donating.

What offers would that be? Google have not offered us anything yet. We've already accepted the Yahoo servers. --Daniel Mayer 05:12, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I remember reading Google offering to pay all hosting costs for nothing in return. They would use wikipedia as MSN uses britannica. (Manfrin@Wikipedia)

Top 30 web site[edit]

Just curious to see the reference for this.

To partial answer my own question- Alexa.com has them ranked at 34th.

Why not ads?[edit]

Wikipedia has got to the point where raising money to cover costs is becoming more and more difficult. I know it's considered taboo, but I really think it would be for the better, and most users would understand if you added a small textad. At a single cent eCPM wikipedia would be making $250,000 a month. And any online marketer can tell you 1c eCPM is about 50 times lower than the average. Wikipedia could easily earn 50c ecpm which is $12.5m a month. Wikipedia would easily be able to pay the bills and expand. All it would require would be a small text ad.

Jimbo promissed the site to be ad free. Also you didn't take in count, bots, adblock, etc... Another thing that might cover the costs is referrals. Google pays upto $1 per referral to firefox, if that gets added to the firefox/ie articles (that is that every accepts it being there) alone should be able to bring in a decent amount of money. 220.233.48.200 10:25, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fundraising Figures[edit]

In the interest of developing information useful for increasing the efficiency of fundraisers, I'm putting together some statistics and figures using the fundraising data. Brief descriptions and early drafts are available here, and comments and requests are more than welcome. Feliz Ano Nuevo! Tobacman 23:36, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
