Qualifications

It is difficult to put an exact time on it. I would (personally) say about 5-8 hours per week would be nice, but if a user has 5-8 hours a day, there is surely work to be done. ;-) Of course being in a volunteer position, like every other project we work on, we all have real lives to attend to and cannot always be available. However we're hoping for somebody who is generally available on a regular basis, with the exception of those real-life times of busyness. Thanks for the question! I hope this helps. Personally, I would say that 5-6 hours are probably average, and you can definitely be a helpful addition to the team with that time commitment. Generally speaking, I wouldn't worry too much about this point: I can only speak for myself, but when I look at a candidate, I won't even try to make an assessment of whether they are available 5 hours or 10 hours a week -- I care about whether someone shows dedication and more generally fits the role, not whether they have excessive spare time to offer. On the other hand, if a candidate is only available for an hour a week, this is probably not enough. Onboarding will take some time, as will reading along our mailing list etc., and I just don't believe there's enough time left to make meaningful contributions if your time budget is thaat tight. Not ready to commit but would like more training

For their to be agents to support others there ought to be some kind of training as to best practices. While I am not ready to be an admin, I would like to be a better community participant, so if there is any online training for how to be a better agent then I would like to participate in that.

OTRS is a great but underserved program. I will say outright that I wish there were a funded community support person on hand to advocate for the OTRS volunteer community, coordinate the development of documentation, sort discussions, and help produce training materials. It would be fantastic if someone were to step up and say, "I want a grant to fund my time to do functionary work for OTRS!", and then perhaps they applied at Grants:IEG/OTRS_Improvements or in their own proposal.

I wish the best for this group but so much about it still confuses me and I feel like I have managed enough tickets to be where I ought to understand what to do in all cases, but still find tough situations without knowing how to respond sometimes. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:13, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Deadline corrected

Hi, I've just edited the document and corrected the application deadline. The final day to submit interest in the OTRS administrator position is Friday, October 31, 2014. The reason it is not the 24th as originally stated on this page is because there multiple dates released in error. We have gone with the latest of the two dates to be fair to any interested parties.
