Wikiversity[edit]

How does this tool relate to Wikiversity? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:08, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikiversity aims at enabling collaborative development of textbooks, and offers relatively few features for online learning, compared to platforms specifically designed for online learning. Since participants will not be developing their own curricula, priority is being placed on using an open platform that will provide a higher level of functionality to ensure we are able to develop courses that are more interactive, allowing for marking individual non-public assignments, non-public grading, etc.
Adding state-of-the-art LMS (learning management system) features to Wikiversity would probably entail an engineering investment of several dozen person-years, and was a complete non-starter in terms of available WMF resources. Our priority is to make progress on the strategic goal of skill building, not necessarily to make progress on building a skill-building platform. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 10:31, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I would like request a help on how to join the course: reading wikipedia in the classroom.

Notifications for comments[edit]

@Asaf (WMF) When users leave comments or reflections, as on this page, does that generate a notification in some way or a mail to someone? Trying to figure out the best way to see them and follow up, and to make sure notifications does not end up in an abandoned account somewhere. /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 09:33, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Axel!
The Instructor tab has a Discussion tab with some options for following specific threads and receiving an email digest. I am not sure if there's an option to follow all future threads by default; we'll need to ask the platform developers.
I am on vacation for the rest of the month, and my colleague Melissa is covering WikiLearn while I am gone, so she should be able to follow up with more information. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 06:25, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks @Asaf (WMF). I'll look around there to see if it's possible to add a non-personal contact address and make sure there's always a ping. Also hoping for further input and help in this as I imagine others might have the same issue when staff and volunteers comes and goes. /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 09:33, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the ping, @Asaf (WMF). Hi, @Axel Pettersson (WMSE)! Thank you for reaching out and sharing this input - it's really valuable for us to enhance the experience of course creators on the platform. I've shared your query with our platform developer partners and I'll get back to you as soon as I get some guidance. Happy to provide further input and support as you build your course on WikiLearn! ✅ Quick update to notify that the feature requested is active now. It can be enabled for Discussion Admins under the Instructor dashboard. Thank you for the helpful input, @Axel Pettersson (WMSE)! MGuadalupe (WMF) (talk) 17:24, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
