Doc James, I've seen your message sent to some French Wikipedia users, in English, with all the translation markup visible (and you've manually removed it).

Use MassMessage to send a translated text is a bit complicated. I use them ofter, and that's sometimes a source of complications! :)

You have to go through two steps to achieve your distribution:

1. translate your message
   1. setup a separated page for your message and add the translation tags
   2. ask for translations
2. setup the MassMessage distribution in multiple languages
   1. use the Module:Assemble_multilingual_message to get all translations together so that you can distribute them in one batch. Mediawiki will know which language applies to the user you're targeting.
   2. when ready, distribute it using mass message

If you distribute the message, and then get the translations done, the local messages will not be updated.

I would have assist you, but I'm unfortunately offline today for a two weeks long vacation time. :/
