Global sponsors[edit]

One of the main tasks people involved in a bid do is finding sponsorship. For local sponsors, that's great, but many of the larger sponsors people may be considering are global companies and could sponsor Wikimania wherever it's held, so leaving it up to local bids seems like a bad idea. Could we get a central list of sponsors that will sponsor Wikimania anywhere and how much/what they will provide? In particular, sponsors from previous years that would be happy to sponsor us again. Repeating this work for each bid is a significant waste of time. --Tango 17:48, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this would be helpful, Tango. Anyone from prior Wikimania bid teams willing to help out with this? -- Zanimum 20:32, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Doubly agreed; it would make more sense in my view for the bid teams to concentrate on securing local sponsorships, than to have everyone chasing after international sponsors. Lankiveil 12:05, 9 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Perhaps you might like to contact Kul, as he's now in the HO position and has to come to terms with where global sponsorships might help to augment WMF's local communities' cashflow, now & in the future--Simonfj 01:29, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

questions for the Wikimania 2009 bids?[edit]

With what you know of past conferences, how will your bid improve on them?

With most wikimedians not being able to attend, what will yo do to make them feel included?

What agenda items (presentations, speakers, workshops) do you consider most important, and will be included in your conference?
