Continent[edit]

I think we dont need to sort it by continent. You dont choose the country regarding the availability of the Wikimedia Host there, but regarding other conditions. So you know where you travel before and you know the city and country, so you would be searching by that exact city (or country). Thats why I would omit the division by continent for now. How it works elsewhere[edit]

If you know, what system has other groups (Couchsurfing, FriendshiForce, Servas, etc.) share your knowledge, please. We will need to shape this service so it would be good to know what works and doesn't work elsewhere. Juandev (talk) 12:37, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

sign up?[edit]

Where do we sign up for this initiative. Also note, although username and country could be kept public but maybe gender could be shared so that both hosts and the guest could know and are comfortable with this deal. It can be a matter of culture issue as well that can be solved with this simple info made public. Thank you. Love this! Wikilover90 (talk) 18:40, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What is the reason to sight up? Juandev (talk) 15:44, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Prague meeting discussion summary[edit]

I have presented the idea on the regular Wikimedia meetup in Prague, Czech Republic.

  • some people, may not use the service, because they cannot provide their home vice versa and they have a strong need to pay back
  • Is it safe to give keys from my home to someone else? - On German Wikipedia, there is a list of known Wikipedians. Every person, who is recognized by two other Wikimedians, may go to the list. So the point is that as much as Wikimedians know you, that much growth the trust into you.
  • Those, who seek the accommodation, should write some basics about themselves and the reason, why they seek accommodation.

Perhaps it is time to make this Known Wikipedians list alive and promoted again.--Jetam2 (talk) 17:05, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think we could create some PR materials (leaflets or poster) and send it to chapter arround the world, wheater thay can promote it on local meetups with community or conferences like CEE meetup. Juandev (talk) 20:08, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Summary of the Facebook discussions[edit]

There were also some FB discussion as the initiative was announced on FB too:

  • people spoke about the privacy, that we should not disclose more personal information, but maybe for some the fact they disclose their wiki identity is too much
    • usernames might be hidden then and only trusted Wikimedian, would have access to such information and provide a connection between host and guest
    • some say only username and the city to disclose
  • it was proposed to organize ourselves via CouchSurfing and finally, this stays as an option
  • people noted, there were already some initiatives in the past (like Wiki Couchsurfing) and they had personally hosted other Wikimediands
  • some were afraid of exploiting this

Promotion[edit]

I am thinking that we have to promote this iniciative even further. Always its the best to advertise in in person, but traveling to wiki events is time and money consuming. So I am wondering what kind of materials we can create to target Wikimedia commonities:

  • leaflet - which we may send to the community and ask them weather they can print it and provide it on the reagion meet ups and or conferences
  • video teaser - for online promotion
  • small cards like business card - with a link to the project page or maybe stickers people coudl remind of the initiatvie
