Any others? WereSpielChequers (talk) 11:03, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@WereSpielChequers: Hi! I often use this very interesting showcase of all types: https://manual.limesurvey.org/Question_types . Is it nice? --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 13:11, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Crosstabbing questions[edit]

Does LimeSurvey allow you to crossstab questions for example country you live in x do you edit Wikipedia by smartphone or table ot PC. If so who has access to the interface to be able to do such cross tabs, and how deeply can they nest? eg userrights by country might not disclose anything personal that isn't public, but education level by userright by country would likely disclose some personal information on the only Bureaucrat in country x.... @WereSpielChequers: Good question! I love doing pivot tables with LibreOffice. I can surely try to give an help even in survey data analysis if needed. --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 14:48, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LimeSurvey Global Access[edit]

Can LimeSurvey be used in every country? Are there any countries restricted from using LimeSurvey?

Grazie, Wikimedia Italia! :) — The preceding unsigned comment was added by ESolares (WMF) (talk) 15:34, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@ESolares (WMF): I think there is absolutely no problem especially for questionnaires whose results are public. Also, as long as an user accepts Wikimedia Italia's privacy policy, that's fine. Anyway I know that this question was reported to the WMI GDPR manager. --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 14:39, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Security of data[edit]

If we choose to go with lime survey for Wikimania who has access to data collected? Gnangarra (talk) 04:08, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gnangarra: Thank you for the question. LimeSurvey allows 100% data ownership.
But freedom doesn't jump out at us without any active intervention.
Please help me in proposing these minimum recommendations (with MUST and SHOULD):
  1. Wikimania MUST require at least the GDPR compliance of tools hosted by other external vendors, since we don't want to create legal problems with our international community.
(Note that this encourages the use of Open Source software in Wikimedia Cloud, and that's OK.)
  2. Wikimania SHOULD invest in making our environment safe by adopting policies and providing technology, resources, and infrastructures to protect the privacy and security and reduce digital surveillance
(These are not my personal goals. I've just read some lines of the Movement Strategy).
(Budget is useful, since it's better to have more than zero USD to fix technical issues)
  3. Wikimania MUST share strong reasons before announcing the possible adoption of a software that is not 100% Libre software, since users should not be obligated to run proprietary software to be not excluded from primary parts of the conference.
(example: «we are investing in Libre XXX but is not ready yet, so we are using proprietary YYY, sorry»)
  4. Wikimania MUST implement sufficient communication to don't become a success story of a specific proprietary product.
(Example: avoiding Google Docs everywhere because Google is not our platinum sponsor - AFAIK)
  5. a concluded Wikimania SHOULD be committed to publish their costs before the start of the next one and in less than 2 years
Thanks Gnangarra for your interest.
Available for clarifications Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 09:18, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gnangarra: Sorry for this late clarification: if Wikimania wants to adopt of the specific LimeSurvey installation of Wikimedia Italia (https://survey.wikimedia.it/), the data is obviously accessed by Wikimedia Italia, and by their technical operators and survey administrators.
In the platform "WMIT LimeSurvey" the data is not shared with LimeSurvey GmbH or any other fancy external company outside Europe like Google or Amazon or Facebook or Apple or Eventbrite. https://www.wikimedia.it/privacy/. Is it the needed information? Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 09:36, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Valero, I cant give any of those assurances. I came here on a recommendation because during covid WMF shut down their secure Scholarship App that had been used for Wikimanias previously looking for a solution to an immediate issue that potentially sends us to Google. <edit conflict> Yes your second answer is closer to what I was looking for A)it's within the community so I assume B) we can delete the data after Wikimania has been completed. Most of what you have requested is outside my capacity to do anything about. If the team Wikimania must do what you want before using Limesurvey then I must recommend we go elsewhere. I came here in good faith looking for answers, despite your good intention and an agreed need to use FLOSS over commercial applications I cant make a commitment that holds the WMF, Steering Committee, and Core Organising Teams effectively to ransom either.
