Talk:Wikipedia & Education User Group/Contact us

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

@Wikipedia & Education User Group Board: The format for the 'contact us on wiki' link on this page is new to me. Does using it in this way ping people active in the group? If not, how can I contact the group on-wiki? Is there anyone in the group that regularly reads the EN Wiki education noticeboard?Dialectric (talk) 19:42, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You can write here, we get pings with that mention. --FiliP ██ 20:46, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Support for classes in English?[edit]

Thank you for the reply Dungodung.

@Wikipedia & Education User Group Board: To members of this group, how should the broader wikimedia community deal with or support academic classes that are interested in using wikipedia in their curriculum? For the English wikipedia, the bulk of this work is handled by wikiedu.org, with any issues discussed on the ENWiki education noticeboard. They have helped classes along for 4+ years, but wikiedu.org only handles courses in the US and Canada. Does Wikipedia & Education User Group have an idea of how to support other classes? I understand that Wikimedia funds and staffs the Wikipedia Education Program, but their current staff hasn't responded to issues raised on the Wikipedia Education noticeboard, and it is unclear if they are able or willing to support new classes or guide instructors in classes that are not already covered by wikiedu.org.Dialectric (talk) 18:12, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Concern raised at Wikidata[edit]

@Wikipedia & Education User Group Board: A user requesting unblock on Wikidata has made a number of claims, specifically that their violations (recreations of previously-deleted items) were performed as part of a training course that is being run by a multiply-blocked prolific sock-puppeteer (Bukky658 aka Marcyway4, see also d:Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/Marcyway4). They further claim that this person is "the first certified trainer of Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom in Nigeria" and "is on the advisory board of Wikipedia and Education User Group". You may wish to investigate whether a member of your organization is engaging in sockpuppetry, training-while-blocked, and likely block evasion. Bovlb (talk) 17:00, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Liannadavis, WikiTatik, Ziko, Dungodung, and Joalpe: This seems like an important and urgent matter, but surprisingly I have received no response or acknowledgement. Is the Wikipedia & Education User Group defunct? Bovlb (talk) 05:37, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the delay and thanks for the ping — I've just posted a reply here: d:User_talk:Bukky658. Liannadavis (talk) 23:30, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just to follow up: It appears this situation is now happily resolved. Bovlb (talk) 18:39, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
