Recency of meetups and the number of represented locations[edit]

@Redrose64: If meetups (with their pages on Meta) were happening more frequently around the world I could see the wisdom in strictly following the "must be one per location" rule: obviously it's good to show a portfolio of different locations. However the edit here meant restoring a meetup on the list that happened over six months ago, and I don't consider that recent. I would prefer listing a more recent meetup from an already-represented location versus something that happened not so recently. Maybe something like a meetup from more than six months ago can be replaced by a more recent meetup from an already-represented location so long as it's only the second instance of that particular location. Another idea is to link to meetups which have their pages on local wikis: that way, no matter what, you'll have recent meetups from a variety of locations.

Also some meetups happen back-to-back (the Hong Kong community held at least two meetups two weeks apart). Perhaps back-to-back meetups from the same location can be put on the same line (that way you still have a variety of locations, but make it clear there are multiple events from the location around that time) WhisperToMe (talk) 11:34, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If we kept it to a strict most recent ten, no matter where they were, we would quickly find that the more frequent meetups were dominating - these being Hong Kong (24 since this time last year), London (12 per year) and Oxford (11 per year). This would give the false impression that meetups never happen elsewhere. --Redrose64 (talk; at English Wikipedia) 23:55, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if it would help to organize by continent - maybe the most recent eight or so in each continent (with a tab one can click to cycle between continents). There are some countries where meetups almost never happen - Japanese Wikipedians tend not to hold meetups. WhisperToMe (talk) 14:14, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 16 December 2020[edit]

I am hosting my own on Zoom and i want to add it. Geographicalman05 (talk) 13:16, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done look at the source of that template, it is just a date that links to a meetup page -- if you have a meetup page and a date and still need help editing this, feel free to reactivate the edit request tag. — xaosflux Talk 19:50, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Possible changes[edit]

  • It would be nice to include items that are listed on other wikis. Can we find a way to do this, perhaps with some kind of scary transclusion, or perhaps with Wikidata?
  • Could we list only those "recent" meetups that don't have a future meetup listed? this would allow us to list more meetups.
  • Could we further tag meetups with "monthly", "most months" "Weekly", "Ad hoc" etc?
